Season 6 Changes

Now before I get started, let me state that there may or may not be additional changes, or we may modify these. It is unlikely, but I should always say so just in case. Below are the changes you can expect for season 6. Consider all of this to take affect starting now.

1) The Super Saiyans will be forced to be start in SSJ1
I can't even begin to count the number of times people cried to Nerf this team. the problem is, that it was just as much good team building as it was strong players. That said, we did learn in our testing that allowing their players to start in higher transformed states, gave them some sizable advantages that we felt they did not need. So all of the Players will start in the first form of super Saiyan. note that this only applies to team Super Saiyans. And before anyone asks, Adult Gohan is powerful, but he can and has been countered, so we do not see him as an over powered threat.

2) Hercule will be getting Draconic Aura for free
This was a decision that came out of countless hours of testing and debating. We all know Herc sucks, but you would be surprised to know just how badly. He is far and away the worst player in the game. We, as a staff tried to put together a build for him to make him at least average, and were unable to do so on a consistent bases. Since we force team Derp to keep their symbol, we wanted to at least make him a viable player. So we ran test after test.... after test... after test... And finally came up with a boost that did not over power nor cripple him. Herc's biggest problem is his inability to stun anyone with his melee. Even if you suck at melee, the ability to use it to disrupt moves and do chip damage is vital to every player. For Herc, it was like every player had a brick wall effect. Giving him a free Draconic aura remedied this without making him over powered. Using this as a starting point, I was able to give Herc a build that allowed him to perform on an average level. So, Herc will have a free Draconic Aura in every build. This of course means that Derp can only put 6 portaras on him, but I am sure they will be fine with that limitation.

3) Power Body will be returning to the League (One per team, not on Arale, Babidi, 19, 20, Cell + Kid Buu)
Power body was never considered an over powered portara. It was originally removed because it was promoting lazy build making. Most teams slapped 2 power bodies on their team, and when we still only had 5 point builds, that was almost 50% of your build right there. We took it away so that people would have to think more about customization. Now that we have 7 point builds, however, we want to re-introduce this portara. For anyone who does not know, this portara gives you a brick wall effect against most melee for 4 points and a -1 to defense. It is not an absolute brick wall, but it can certainly improve your melee game. By limiting it to one per team, we are safe from it promoting lazy builds again. The restricted characters are because they either already have a natural brick wall, or they have health/energy stealing grabs that would be almost impossible to stop with power body on them.

4) Dragonball Z League will be moving from TGN's channel to the DBZL channel

TGN loves DBZ league, but they are really pushing to grow on twitch. They feel that a show like DBZ does not really fit a hub channel like TGN central and will not have season 6 there. That does not mean they are leaving us by any means. I am already working with their graphics team to make the live stream even better. They want to make the live stream a corner stone in their Twitch growth. Because of this, we are going to move the youtube show back to the original DBZ League channel. Live stream is still the best way to catch the show, but DBZ League will always have a home on youtube.

5) Master list for teams potential characters
Very shortly there will be a master list containing what players are available for each team. While this is a final list of who you can or cannot have on your team, we are always open to appeals. The Master List.

6) All teams will have access to the Player Calculator
So, Burnarator has been teasing a secret project of his for some time. It is almost finished and we are excited to tell you that DBZ League is getting a Player Calculator. This is a spread sheet that has all of the stats for every character in the league... and I do mean ALL OF THEM. Not only will you be able to use this tool to see what a character's moves and base stats are, but you will also be able to add any portara and actually see how it affects the players stats. For example, you will see that a player has a B2 that does 5000 damage to the level of damage it would do when you place Super +2 on it. This amazing tool will be invaluable when making builds for your team. It is not done yet, but it will be done soon.

7) Coaches that step down cannot select a replacement
As we get bigger, we have to be careful about staying open and friendly to new participants. In addition, we need to make sure coaches know what they are doing. We felt that allowing a coach who was stepping down to choose whoever they want to take over was a very good way to drive away new comers as the coach would commonly just give it to who they knew and not who necessarily deserved it. More importantly, we want to be sure the new coach is qualified to be a coach. So effective immediately, all teams that have a coach stepping down will hold tryouts for the new coach. Further details will be in a post following this one. Linked: Coach Tryouts.

8) New "Max Health" tests are to be introduced
During the off season, we will allow you to select a new type of test. You can test any build against any player with any build. Do you want to see how they would fair against a melee Fasha? Do it. Spammer Majuub? Have at em. In addition, you can request that your opponent have max health bars. This will give you a more accurate idea of just how well your build works. Instead of know that they "won" you can now see just how much damage they would have done before they died.

9) New "Coach Banners" will be available to coaches
Burnarator is making optional coaches banner for all coaches. More details to come.

Feel free to ask any and all questions. We will be recording a Zcast tomorrow and will try to answer any questions you might have.

That's the point of the Pre-Season and main Season. That's the purpose of the current testing you guys are doing in the Off-Season.

I remember there being a discussion about potentially using the AI level above "very hard." Did anything ever come of this discussion?

I believe it caused the game to lag too much when they tried it so they went back to very hard. I couldn't say whether it's something they might consider again at some point, but I was at the stream and it had a fairly drastic effect on performance from what I remember. You may try asking this question in the z-cast question thread as well. They said they might make an off-season z-cast if they get enough questions and this seems like a good one to me.

Squee and I determined that it would be unfair to some teams to start completely from scratch. Because on "Super Hard" some characters seemed to much much better due to their melee game being really good, however other characters wouldn't do anything close to what that character did on "Very Hard". Plus, it would shift the entire league from being a lot of different builds to mostly melee since "Super Hard" prioritizes melee over everything else. Also, certain characters that have healing B1s would spam them. Which sounds cool in theory, but I literally sat in my chair for almost an hour and a half in a Grandpa Gohan Vs. Grandpa Gohan fight. Both of them were on different AIs, and both of them would chain sleeps back to back. That was one round out of three, by the way. I kinda figured it would be just that character, but no. Even Garlic Jr. would spam Makyo Star, and Arale.... Good god I don't want to talk about Arale... And this is without any B1 potaras mind you. So, we were faced with the choice of pretty much destroying some teams due to banning every health regaining character and starting some teams from scratch, or staying on Very Hard. :P

Just talk to phantom yo. Assistant coaches aren't official, you're just committing to making your builds are posted in case your coach cannot post your team's build for that week.
