Divisional Placement: What's your opinion?

Alright everyone, so there has been an issue that has come to my attention lately. It's about the way that divisional placement is to be decided from season to season. Originally, I posted in the Playoff Structure thread that it would be conducted based on what places teams were in their respective divisions, and at the end of the main season, depending on what spot they were in, they would be put in a different division next season.

1st spot teams went to Kage Division, 2nd spot teams went to Jonin Division, 3rd spot teams went to Chunin Division, and 4th spot teams went to Genin Division.

However, I have heard a request of changing it to the way DBZ League operates; being based on win/loss record. The four highest teams w/l wise go to Kage Division, the four second highest teams w/l wise go to Jonin Division, and so on. If you came to an impasse where there were more than four teams with the same record, you would then find out which teams among those have beaten whom, and calculate the respective division using that data. The reason this was brought to my attention was for the purpose of power scaling. The concern was that with the current method, divisions would be way out of whack when it came to power differences and thus keeping certain teams at the top of their divisions repeatedly. Now, there is no guarantee this will happen, but it is a possibility.

So, I'm going to let the community decide.

My question to you is that since the main season is not over and done with yet, which method would you choose? I'll leave a poll up for you guys to vote on.

You all have until Week 15's recording date (August 31st) to vote. Once we get to that date, it is to be decided.

Sorry Nova, but that is making a lot of assumptions that most likely will not come true. You assume that every team will stay at a consistent level season in and season out despite what game, who's coaching, and even who is on each team. We already know that season 2 is nothing like season 1 and season 3 might even be in a whole new game. Beyond that, different coaches will have different habits that will make different teams stronger or weaker. In fact, I would go so far as to say, if you really think the teams will stagnate that much, then there is not much reason to have a Naruto league. Everyone will already know who is going to do well and who will not. Your system assumes this to be the case. I, on the other hand, feel that the strength of the teams will be constantly changing each season as people try new things and get better at the system.

Judging divisions based on how you placed in a division will horribly unbalance the divisions. Imagine a team manages to win their division with a 5/10 win loss record and the other three divisions had teams that were 12/3, 10/5, and 11/4. Are you telling me that putting a 5/10 team in a divisions with those is balanced? They will most likely get slaughtered in the next season. Much better to put them in a division with teams that are their equals. Besdies, this also helps to promote good inter-divisional races. If we don't try to balance the divisions, you will have strong teams dominate weaker teams and the last 5 weeks of the season will not matter much.

Now, before anyone thinks I am contradicting myself by saying team will change, but then suggesting they will not, that is not what I am saying at all. Change takes time and effort. You can't expect a team to go from zero to hero in one off season. That said, it is folly to assume they will never grow either.
Hey ima throw this out there i like both ideas but W/L is a better option for reasons Squee said.
But squee say that team that was 5-10 wins the bowl then they deserve kage despite their record
So i say W/L records with the exception of the Village Bowl Champion, who i think should be guaranteed Kage
whether their record be 15-0 or 5-10 if they come out on top they deserve to stay on top despite everything
Ex. Say Kurenai takes the bowl this season but has a record of 7-8 statistically that puts them Top of Chunin/Bottom of Jonin, but their the champions and your putting them in with teams like Taka or Kenjutsu who were average at best, so i think to be fair Champions should always be #1 seat of Kage/North Kai.

That's an interesting prospect, but you have to consider that the Playoffs are to be conducted differently from the main season matches. Either way, it's decided; the votes show that the majority of you would prefer... by Win/Loss record!

It would be different if the divisional matches were weighted more than all the open random matches. So a bracketed system works best based on w/l records and ties go to the best in their division after head to head records.
