I recommend the movie Heartbreak Ridge. It is about Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway (Clint Eastwood) and how he trains his group of marines.

SPOILERS FOR FIGHT CLUB

(and if hasn't been spoiled for you yet you've either had your head buried in the sand or weren't a child of the 90s!)

Quote:

When Ed Norton is narrating on the ground floor and Tyler is sleeping with Marla up stairs he is on the phone as Ed is Tyler he can't possibly be doing both. Also the premise of the rules are flawed if you can't talk about fight club how does it get new members and grow so quickly.

Would it help if I explained that Edward Norton's not really sitting there? He and Tyler really are the same person. But the narrator is seeing a fractured, disjointed reality. The narrator remembers doing some things, but then not others. So, when Tyler wants to hide the fact that the narrator did actually bump uglies with Marla, he could easily tell the narrator "you were sitting downstairs."

You also have to consider artistic license. Part of the point of the movie is to keep people guessing. You can't let them know the twist, right? So, how do you do that? You show Norton doing one thing while Pitt's off doing another.

Film is a tricky medium. I'm certain that the director and stars considered what were the best ways to express how the narrator and Durden are related without giving away the twist. Ergo, they needed scenes like that.

And onto a movie I saw recently: Birdman! This also happens to showcase Norton's acting chops. But the real focus is Michael Keaton, famous for being Batman and Beetlejuice (note that those are also Burton movies). Keaton is on point in this film! It explores the desires of modern audiences, theater, and the human psyche. It's a beautiful film with seamless transitions.

Emma Stone's in there and pretty to look out while she's acting her heart out and making you experience all 'dem feels. Seriously. So many feels centered around her and Keaton.

And, like I said before, Norton's in there. I love his interpretation of of a method actor and how they work.

Overall I'd have to rate this movie 9/10, maybe even 10/10 because it's so damn good.

Hey Vin I know that it was used as a plot device I think that it is just opens up too much scrutiny to what events actually take place, but i see where you are coming from I guess like any artform different people will view them in unique ways. :)

So you would recommend Birdman? I saw the trailer and it did look pretty cool but wasn't sure whether to see that or Gone Girl.

I've only read LOTR books and not the movies. I read the Hobbit before I started them and I've been watching those movies though. I'll try and get the Blu Ray for LOTR after I see the last Hobbit movie.
Good comedy would be "The Other Guys" and "Dinner with the Schmucks" both of those movies when I was on an airplane and I thought they were hilarious. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is always a great watch. I still have yet to see Life of Brain, but it seems funny.
Some nice movies I can think of would be Dead Poet Society, Donnie Darko, and Memento.
Other movies I can think of would be Highlander (only saw the first, I heard the others were bad), and IP Man 1 and 2. IP Man has the best martial arts scenes I've seen in movies for a long time. The flash choreography is astounding. The Crow was pretty good.

I watched Fury the other day and its one of those movies that really maximized the audio potential in movies when the tanks are in combat you hear the shells ripe through the sky ricochets are so scary and the whole movies was well produced, directed, acted, ect ect. But my favourite aspect of the movie would be those epic tank battles.

(SPOILER)
Havoc, I also watched the movie and enjoyed it but there was something that left me a bit disapointed. It was great in the moment and very exhilarating but there was a moment in the movie where there was a very long period of time which killed the momentum of the action in the movie, the scene where they meet with the two women after thaking the city. I get that it was there for character development but if it was shorter like 10 min instead of 30 it would have kept the momentum at a reasonable pace. Other than that the battle scenes were great and it was an enjoyable experience 8/10
