Hello everyone! Darkness here with an important announcement regarding Free Agents and Dedicated Supports! Last season, Free Agents were a new idea that we implemented, and while they did work, in a way, they were incomplete. So, in Season 3, there are going to be some changes to the Free Agent formula!

The first big change is that you have to use your base roster in the first trimester. Whatever Free Agent you pick up at the beginning of the season has to operate as a Dedicated Support for the first five weeks. This is being done to get teams familiarized with their base members in order to give them an informed decision in whether or not they should swap a problematic fighter out, making them a Dedicated Support.

The next change that is being made to this system is the matter of making a base roster member a Dedicated Support. In Season 2, you were given the choice to swap one of your fighters out for your Free Agent, granted the fact that your Free Agent was operating as a Dedicated Support and was not a Support Only character. This allowed teams to get one of their more lackluster fighters off of the front lines. However, every one of your base roster members needed at least three benches by the end of the season, so if you wanted to keep that base roster member out for the rest of the season, you needed to have given them three benches prior to making them a Dedicated Support. If you didn't do that, you would have to swap them back out of the Dedicated Support role in another trimester to give them the rest of their needed benches. The problem with this was that while it gave teams more of a choice, it also served to restrict the choice they made in some way. This also allowed for teams to abuse the feature, as Free Agents did not submit to benching rules, and could play in as many matches as they wanted without having to ever be benched. If your Free Agent plays exceptionally well, you could just have them in every match with no repercussions. This is now changing in Season 3. Now, if you wish to swap a base roster member out in the second or third trimester, you're making them a Dedicated Support for however long you wish, and may be swapped with someone else on the team later. However, this means that the Free Agent you choose to swap in now has to submit to benching rules, as if they were a base roster member. The moment you switch them in, they need three benches by the end of the season. But, if you switch them back out to the Dedicated Support role, their benches will also become irrelevant, and if someone is switched back in, they must submit to benching rules once again. However, they will not have to start their benches over, rather just pick up from the amount of benches they left off at.

So, for example:

Let's say your team consists of Sai, Naruto, Zabuza, Roshi, and Obito as a Free Agent. And by the end of Week 5, their bench counts are:

Sai: 2
Naruto: 1
Zabuza: 1
Roshi: 1
Obito: 0 - Irrelevant

Now let's say you swap Obito into a base roster role and Zabuza into the Dedicated Support role. Your bench counts are now:

Sai: 2
Naruto: 1
Obito: 0
Roshi: 1
Zabuza: 1 - Irrelevant

And by the end of Week 10, the bench counts are as follows:

Sai: 3
Naruto: 2
Obito: 2
Roshi: 3
Zabuza: 1 - Irrelevant

If the team chooses to switch Zabuza back into a base roster role, whoever they switch into the Dedicated Support role will not have their benches apply either. However, it's important to note that in this hypothetical scenario, it wouldn't be mandatory to switch Zabuza back in. So, let's assume we switch... Naruto out. The bench counts would now be:

Zabuza: 1
Sai: 3
Obito: 2
Roshi: 3
Naruto: 2 - Irrelevant

And Zabuza would have to make up two benches for the end of the season, along with Obito having to make up his last one.

The last big change relates to the other choice you can make regarding your Free Agent. In Season 2, you picked one Free Agent at the beginning of the season, and stuck with that for the rest of it, choosing to either keep them a Dedicated Support or to switch them in as a fighter every trimester. However, that is going to change in Season 3. With the previous system, there were a few teams who picked a Free Agent that didn't really help them out in the long run, and this was something they were stuck with for the entire season. Now, you will have three options when it comes to choosing what to do with your Free Agent. The following chart will list the options that you have in the second and third trimester, including one we've talked about already:

Spoiler: click to toggle

So now, in addition to swapping a fighter with your Free Agent or just keeping your Dedicated Support the way it is, you may also switch your Free Agent entirely. However, they will have to play the role of Dedicated Support for the first trimester they're in, in order to keep the meta from changing too much at once. Also, these rules do apply for the Playoff trimester as well.

So, for anyone who may have missed anything, here's a brief summary of the changes made:

  • You must use your four base roster members for the first trimester of the season

  • If you switch a base roster member out into a Dedicated Support role, their bench quota is negated until swapped back into a Base Roster role

  • Upon switching a base roster member into a Dedicated Support role for the first time, your Free Agent must comply to benching rules

  • You may swap your Free Agent out for another untaken Free Agent entirely, given that they're in a Dedicated Support role. However, if you do this, the new Free Agent must play the Dedicated Support role for their first trimester. In the hypothetical scenario I portrayed earlier with Zabuza and Obito, when that team moves into the Playoffs, they will not be able to switch their Free Agent entirely, rather, they'd only be able to change who fills the Dedicated Support role (since their Free Agent isn't in a Dedicated Support role as of the third trimester)

Sounds like a decent idea. The forced bench time could be shorter though, like 3 weeks or so imo.

love the idea of getting rid of free agents you thought would be good
So teams hypothetically could be more unpredictable from season to season
as in a team could be crappy first trimester then maybe they make a change and theyre great or decent in the next sounds pretty good

That was the idea. The main example that we used for this change was OD last season. at the beginning, they picked up Nagato as their DS, but he wasn't really working out for them. With the older rules, since he was a fighter, they were stuck with him for the entire season. With the new rules, they could switch him out for someone else with a jutsu might prove to be more useful. Like Shippuden Lee for instance. It pretty much gives teams more options, and more options is good. :)

so quick question what about free agent trading like lets say that one team (random Teams)
Uchiha has a free agent that they thought would help their team first trimester goes by and they dont like their pick
If lets say Akatsuki thinks that the Uchiha free agent would work better on their team can Akatsuki offer their free agent for Uchihas as a trade?
so in essence it would be option 3 just between 2 teams instead of the free agent pool of course option 2 would still invalidate the option

As long as it's agreed by both team captains that they're giving up their Free Agent, it shouldn't be an issue. If two teams wanted the same given up Free Agent, well then... that's when we hold a Free Agent Bout.
