Hey everybody, Anthony with a special announcement! As you know, play-off matches are 4 vs. 4 with teams playing against teams in their division first and then proceed to face the winning team of the next division.

Example: (If you already remember the rules, feel free to skip this part.)
Spoiler: click to toggle

With that out of the way, the main idea here is that we are revamping it.

Now, you won't be fighting the teams in your division immediately in play-offs. We're making it so it's immediately Jonin vs. Kage and Genin vs. Chunin. An example would be:

Genin division
Team Guy (1st) 12/3
OD (2nd) 8/7
Team Taka (3rd) 6/9
Hidden Mist (4th) 5/10

Chunin division
Kenjutsu Clan (1st) 9/6
Team Asuma (2nd) 9/6
Hidden Sand (3rd) 7/8
Team Kurenai (4th) 6/9

Kenjutsu Clan and Team Guy would still get the bye-weeks. But with updated rules, the first matches would be

Hidden Sand (3rd) vs. Team Taka (3rd) and Team Asuma (2nd) vs. OD (2nd).

The winner of the third place round would move on to face Team Guy, and the winner of the second place round would go on to face Kenjutsu Clan. Vice versa to all of this for Kage and Jonin divisions.

The main reason for this is so we can make the play-off structure more dynamic without making it too different and so that way, everyone pays attention to more than just their own division.

I hope everyone agrees with this inclusion, because it is final. If there is a negative outlook on it by the majority, we'll consider a change back to the norm for season 4. I apologize for saying this on such late notice.

If anyone has any questions regarding this change, please reply to this thread or PM me or an active staff member. Thank you for your time!

To clarify, for Jonin and Kage: would the winner of the 3rd place round fight the 1st place Jonin team, and the 2nd place round first the 1st place Kage team?

This could be a good idea, but its not really clear on why things are going to be the way they are. Why is the winning third place team in the example facing Team Guy, is it because of their record, that theyre a Genin team or something else?

It seems like the theory is the winner of third place faces the lower bracket leader and the winner of the second place faces the higher bracket leader, that way the divisions don't necessarily all have to beat the top of their division again just to move on, they have a better chance at a lower bracket team or a team they might have an advantage against. This season it just happened to work out that third place of Genin/Chunin must face Guy but in general it seems interesting.

Which means I'd have to either face Asuma or OD again, which I'm fine with. Rather not have to face Asuma again so...G-OD!

Thank you for putting that into words for me! I had a hard time trying to explain that idea out. I get the idea may be a bit confusing for all, but I'm sure it'll make things more interesting and make for more entertaining matches.

It's mostly to make our matchups more diverse and at the same time, feel fair. Based on standings, the third place team in Genin would face Guy since they're the Genin leader, and the second place team in Genin would face Kenjutsu since they're the Chunin leader. Based on events of this season it might not make sense, but it'd make less sense to do it the other way around, in my opinion. Plus, it doesn't have to be 3rd place Genin vs. 1st place Genin and 2nd place Chunin vs. 1st place Chunin. It can be that or 3rd place Chunin vs. 1st place Genin and 2nd place Genin vs. 1st place Chunin. I think that this way, the structure makes more sense and gives equal chance to whoever wins their matches.
