Season 7 gauntlet, and MVP tournament

Hey guys! As you guys know, things have been pretty shaken up from last season. Lots of changes. And this playoffs bracket is no different! To continue with the changes and improvements, we will be handling the MVP tournament and the Gauntlet a bit differently.

First off, no Free Agents will be able to be in the MVP tournament, or the Gauntlet. I'm sorry, but those competitions are designed for base roster characters, not your team's mercenaries.

Now, let's go over the MVP Tournament.
For the most part, things will be run the same- Each team's MVP will be determined by the highest average damage that character did, with the possibility for exceptions to be made by teams. They will have to be constructive arguments, but the staff will review each case and will judge on a case by case basis. The MVP list will be released within the next 2 days, and from there on, its all up to you guys to figure out what you want to do. The biggest change however, is that Hercule will fight the victor of the normal MVP tournament to be declared the season 7's most valuable player. The staff feel that this is more in line with the lore of the show, and we feel that it would add a bit more weight to the tournament for people who wish to view it as a more serious competition. Because of this change, Hercule will no longer be in the gauntlet, and starting next season will no longer be forced upon Derp. I will warn you, that he will have an overpowered build, and unlike the rest of the tournament, will be on the Cell Games Arena. So you will have to earn it to be declared the season 7 most valuable player. Along with this change, to try and spread out the playoffs a bit more and to cut down on the 6+ hours it would take to do the Tenkaichi Bowl, The MVP tournament will be held after the semi-final matches. Meaning that you will have 3 weeks to figure out the builds you wish to use for the MVP tournament, and submit them to your final customization threads. Failure to do so, will result in that character using the last valid build in Final Customization.

Next, we have the Gauntlet.
For the most part, the gauntlets will be run the same as they always have. Each Kai will come together to try and beat this season's gauntlet in threads that will be made later tonight. Like usual, the other teams in your kai will vote for your team's gauntlet fighter. Please remember that the MVPs will not be able to be in the gauntlet. Then you will try and build them as if they were on a normal team using the normal customization rules, and restrictions. Finally, this will be run in tandem with the Tenkaichi Bowl Finals like usual. All supporters and coaches are encouraged to vote and support each other to beat the gauntlet.

Now, because last season was not only finally beaten, but also generally considered "Easy" to a few, we have decided to ramp things up a bit. First off, there will be 4 rounds instead of 3, and each round will be ramping up in intensity. In order to give people a good idea of what to expect for the coming seasons until this Gauntlet is beaten, we will be revealing the first round of this season along with their builds. We will also give you the option of having a certain build for the first round to try and counter it, and having a separate build for the rest of the gauntlet. With each round that is defeated, the next season will have that round revealed, and you would be able to have a separate build for every round that is revealed.

So without further ado, here is this season's gauntlet setup:

Round 1 (The prelims): SSJ Vegito, SSJ3 Gotenks, SSJ4 Goku, SSJ4 Vegeta - To have a fairly tough challenge right off the bat, we have the old school wall. All of this team's builds will be a maximum of 7 points, will adhere to the normal customization rules (only one EL, no duplicate blues, and be built like a normal team), and teams will know their builds so that they may try and counter them. With this idea, you would be able to have a set of builds solely for round 1, and round 2-onwards. No red potaras.

Round 1's builds in no particular order

-- Since this is the first season for this gauntlet, you will only know the amount of opponents, and the rules behind them for the rest of the rounds. --

Round 2 (The ???, 4 Fighters) - To continue the challenge, all builds will have a maximum of 10 points. All of this team's builds will adhere to any restrictions on those characters, and will adhere to the normal customization rules (only one EL, no duplicate blues, and be built like a normal team). No red potaras, but King Kai's Training and Master Roshi's training are allowed.

Round 3 (The ???, 4 Fighters) - This team's builds will have a maximum of 15 points. Will not adhere to the normal customization rules (meaning duplicates are allowed). No red potaras.

Round 4 (The ???, 5 Fighters) - This team's builds will not have any point maximum, will not adhere to any restrictions, and all red potaras are allowed.

If there are any questions, please feel free to ask!

Darn, figures somebody had to say the last gauntlet was too easy XD. Between smarter fighters with the new difficulty and the unfair builds, seems like it will be tough to even get past the second round. And with the last round having five characters, no potara restrictions, and no point restrictions, seems like you would have to be ridiculously lucky and perfectly counter that team in order to have an even fight with them let alone win; making it near impossible.

So I don't see anyone beating it this season; we will have to see how many seasons it takes because as of now regardless of who the fighters are, I don't see how to get past the final round even if we knew the builds. The people wanting a harder gauntlet definitely got their wish XD.

But in all seriousness since the point of the gauntlet is supposed to be something unbeatable, just the layout of it sounds like in theory you can compete in the rounds but the chances of winning are slim; so that goal should be met with this. In other words, good job and thanks for composing it! Hopefully we as a league can at least compete with these teams so that it is not just a slaughter-fest but time will tell.

Yeah, Kaio and I have been working fairly hard trying to get the builds and AIs sorted for the new gauntlet. After how hard last season's was beaten, we decided to take our time and make sure it is as much of an accomplishment as possible. If you beat the gauntlet, your team should be carved into the annals of DBZL history because of how much you have to fight through.

Now, I know I said it would only take a couple of days to get the MVPs to you guys. But, things came up when we were figuring out the new MVP rule. Which is, All fighters that have not been active and on the field at least 8 times this season is excluded from the MVP tournament. So, with that rule in place, here are your MVPs:
  • Androids: Cell
  • Blades: Cyborg Tao
  • Buus: Evil Buu
  • Cold: Metacooler
  • Derp: Devilman
  • DBW: Nam
  • ED: Yamcha
  • Ginyu: Burter
  • Gohans: Teen Gohan
  • Majins: Majuub
  • Muscle: Broly
  • Namek: Tambourine
  • Rugrats: Kid Trunks
  • Saiyans: Raditz
  • SSJ: End Goku
  • Vals: Arale

As detailed above, if you do not agree with the MVP, please feel free to make a case. But it will have to be a well constructed argument. Not just "We don't feel like X is our MVP". And the Staff will review each case. If you want to make a case, please respond in this thread and put the argument in a spoiler tag. Please remember, that the MVP cannot include your Free Agent. Similarly, in case it wasn't crystal clear, the Gauntlet will not have any Free Agents as well. So that team will have to be made with the 4 remaining characters on your base roster. As for the gauntlet threads, they will be going up soon.

Your builds for the MVP tournament will be due in your Final Customization threads by the 8th of July so that the tournament may be held after the Semi-finals. Failure to do so, will result in the last valid build for that character to be used.

Hey guys! Because of the week break, we are extending the Gauntlet's deadline to the 28th of July. So you guys will have another week to determine things. However, the MVP deadline is still the 8th of July! And speaking of the MVP, we have a couple of changes- First off, Power Body will no longer be allowed. Because it is fairly overpowered for a 1v1 environment. Next, we are moving Hercule from the Cell Games Arena to the normal Tenkaichi Tournament map. This means that despite having an unfair build, Hercule will be able to be rung out. As for when the MVP Tournament is done, the main part will run after the round 1 semi-finals match. Then the second round of the Semi-finals will run the following week, and the 1v1 match Vs. Hercule will be ran after that.
