Out of all the supra-geniuses of the world, what one individual stands out as the smartest person in history?

Edison. If it wasn't for him, we would be going to bed when it got dark out, although I'm sure someone would have invented the light bulb sooner or later.

With all do respect I feel J.K. Rowling does not deserve to be on this list sure she wrote one of if not the most famous serious of fiction novels ever but still that doesnt put you up there with Einstein and Newton

He rules
On that list, probably Leonardo too, but i dont know why Julius Caesar or Ghengis Khan isnt up there when Alexander the Great and George Washinton is. I know that there are TONS of people who, it could be argued, deserve to go on this list, im just me being a pain, sorry cant help it :)

Dr. Oppenheiner should be up here. He helped to end WW2 earlier with the atomic bomb.

The answer depends on the definition of "smart". Personally I think intelligence comes in different varieties. For example, I know Lionel Messi, or for you Yankies maybe.. Drew Brees?, might not be the most scientifically intelligent individuals. They both have never discovered an element or won a Nobel peace prize BUT their sporting intelligence is off the chart. Messi or Brees can pick a pass out, or see an amazing run.. going through very complex decision trees in miliseconds on 'instinct' and training.

At the same time, I'd have like to have seen Einstein command a military campaign like Alexander the great did ;)
Or for that matter, see Ghandi create amazing work like DaVinci did.
