Well metal ressource like silver, cooper or iron seems fundamental no?

Also you might take into account food resources or luxury resources.(like silk, ivory, mithril...)

Edit: stop posting like that dammit. :P

The northern countries actually were colonised in the past, but have become independent nations in the last few centuries :P

I need a bit of help quickly: I can only think of two resources (oil and timber) but i cant think of any other main ones. I dont want too many resources, or it gets a bit hectic, but around three or four more should be enough :)
Oil
Timber
Food (fish, grain, cattle, deer, etc)
Alcohol (+ the raw crops to create them)
Precious metals (Mythril? Gold, Silver, Iron, gems)
Horses / Riding Wolves
Fur
Spices
Dyes
Magic... resources?

Can be divided into Luxury ones and practical ones (E.g. difference between gems (luxury) and timber (practical - for boats))

& our schools are less about brainwashing and more just about cheating the system. E.g. they teach kids HOW to pass the test, not teaching them the subject. It's not uncommon to hear a teacher saying "X will come up on this test, so revise that. Y won't so we won't need to learn that".

This is set in the equivilant of 1990's - 21st Century, so Food wont be too important, theres no magic in the world, metals are a good idea, gas is good, and agriculture is all good. I probably wont be able to represent all these on the map, but ill get as many as possible on there :P

Again, I would think the native race for our land would be Dwarves. Minning could also be huge.

I suppose, but to put different types of food on each country will mean that it wont fit on them eventually! :P The food will be influenced by your agricultual capabilities and your geographical location, i.e if your by the sea you will have more fish than someone who isnt :P
