Bleach Canceled

So as you may or may not have heard by now (I just found out yesterday), the Bleach anime stopped airing in Japan on March 27th after 7.5 years, at episode 366, which was the finale of the latest arc. It is being replaced by a Naruto spin-off. It was doing pretty well in the ratings department from what I can tell, so the reason for the cancellation seems to be that it was only six chapters behind the manga when it ended. There were only two other real options other than ending it. Option one would have been to have 2-3 years of consecutive filler while waiting for the manga to conclude it's final arc, which is supposedly going to be longer than the Arrancar arc. Option two would be to pull a Fullmetal Alchemist/Soul Eater and take the final arc in a completely different direction from the manga. There are currently no plans to adapt the final arc to animation, so for all intents and purposes, the anime is over.

Really don't care much for the anime, but that's just a slap in the face against the fans innit? Why wouldn't they conclude it differently than the manga, FMA did it brilliantly! Weird... not bothered by it, but still a petty.

Meh. I kinda stopped paying attention around the time Toushiro started fighting Harribel. Sorry for the fans who still where watching though.

It will resume sooner or later. They're just waiting for the manga to go ahead. From what I've read the series is already filled with fillers so a break seems logic. It maybe sad for the fans but I think that complaining about it is a bit childish.

Anyway I've never watched Bleach but I like Shiro Sagisu and his ost for the series. (the chara design is pretty neat too from what I've seen)

I wasn't complaining. I'm a little upset that they aren't animating the final arc, sure, but I actually think they made the best decision. The filler arcs are generally speaking pretty awful, so it seems to me that Studio Pierrot doesn't exactly have the best writers in the world.

Until something official is announced though, I'm going to remain skeptical about the final arc getting animated. Maybe some OVAs, but I've never heard of an anime just stopping and then picking back up years later.

Inuyasha did that, but it's a special case.

bleach is one of my 4 fav and I think it is better this way. The fillers are god awful. I much prefer they just stop for a while and animated the final arc once it is done (i think it made way too much money not to)

My only fear is that there should be another arc at all. To be honest, it felt like it should have ended after the defeat of Aizen... the whole Execution arc seemed so out of place. I just hope the final arc is worth it.

btw, when you say it is longer than the Arrancar arc, do you mean that whole darn thing starting after they saved Rukia in soul society?

Sorry I wasn't implying that, I was just expressing my opinion about the average reaction I saw on some forums.

I haven't read the manga in uhh years(?). I honestly expected them to stop when Aizen was dead. When I stopped reading Ichigo was heading to fight Aizen while he and his crew where at the town. I figured it would end soon. I need to figure out where that was and catch up one of these days. Be nice to read both that and Naruto as they both headed towards their end (at least it feels like Naruto is FINALLY working towards a conclusion).
