Alright so lately I've had rampant insomnia and I am awake all night and end up sleeping all day. This makes it more difficult to sleep the next night. SO can anyone recommend a way to keep myself awake for the entire day?

You're looking at it the wrong way. You don't need a way to stay awake all day, you need a way to get to sleep in the night.
Tips:
1. Stay away from the PC, or Tellie for the last half-hour. It makes it easier for the eyes to adapt.
2. A relaxed way to enter a night's-sleep is the best way. Drink some milk, read a book, whatever you want.
3. Find a good way to position your head, and try to recap the day before it. It takes the body a long while to process the thoughts before you can actually go to sleep.

try going out for a walk the hour before you want to sleep

I have exactly the same problem at times mate. Personally I find it helps to slowly break yourself out of the habit. So go to bed an hour earlier than you normally do and try to wake up an hour earlier. I know it's hard, but it's a lot less difficult than trying to stay awake for 30 or so hours.

Do this once every night or every 2 days and before you know it you're awake at 8am and going to sleep at 1am :)
