bringin' it around town

I hadn't seen discussion about this yet and thought I should share! Last night I bought an episodic series called The Walking Dead, which is based on the comics of the same name. Now, the game is developed by Telltale; they're already one of my favorite companies because of their adventure games, so I figured it was a safe buy. I hadn't had any exposure to the Walking Dead series before this, so I didn't know what to expect, but I had heard good things about the game. Playing it for myself, I can only describe it in one way: DayZ meets Bioware game/Heavy Rain. In terms of setting, it's DayZ all the way...you have post-apocalypse zombies, people scrounging for food, supplies, and shelter, some grouping together, some becoming bandits. I honestly felt the same way in this game as I did playing DayZ, because the circumstances teach you to be wary of everyone you meet, while becoming extremely protective of the people you do trust. It's a fantastic atmosphere. Now the mechanics are pretty much what I mean by Bioware game/Heavy Rain: choices. You make choices everywhere. Sometimes they're small things, like deciding whether to travel in search of shelter during the day or wait until night. Sometimes they're bigger things...like the value of one person's life over another. I should note that almost no decision goes unnoticed by the game; characters will reference things that you said, if you've lied to them, if you've argued against them. Because it's much more compact than a Bioware game, it seems to allow consequence for nearly every single decision you make. It's stressful, but also very satisfying. I've done two playthroughs making different decisions, and it's amazing how different each one ended up. Oher than that, the gameplay is really not that varied...it's mainly decisions, dialogue, and quicktime events. But I think it would have suffered if they tried to cram more combat aspects into it. Lastly, a warning...these games are gory and pretty effed up. Like, straight up jacked. Episode two in particular made me gape and go "that's just WRONG" at least 10 times. It's probably nothing worse than you'd find in a horror game, but believe me, this is not something to play in the company of kiddies. So now that I've tl;dr'd about it, I'd like to know if anyone else has played them...and if so, what decisions you guys made. If not...then consider this shameless promotion for the game It's like 25 bucks and only the first two episodes are out so far, both of which can be completed in a few hours each...but in my opinion, it's already money well spent.

So do I. In just two couple-hour long episodes the game has completely hooked me. It would be absolutely perfect for a blind LP, too. I only thought of it after finishing both episodes, so while I'd loved for this to have been the game that actually gets me started on LPing...I am perfectly happy watching others do it. I guess it's a little different from what he usually does, but I'd LOVE to see Squee (or co.) give it a shot. |

I've never played a game that has made me care so much about everything that happens like this game does. SPOILER FOR EPISODE 3 This was the best episode yet. I am both terrified, and excited about the next episode. |

I didn't play it yet but saw a walkthrough of it by GhostRobo, I do plan to play it thoug (I don't mind that this spoils the game for me a bit) The emosions I see coming from him playing it give me a more awesome experience watching the walkthrough. *Spoiler thingy action I don't know how to do :P* *SO BE WARNED!* by the loot stealing from the group I honestly thought it was carly, because she was acting very weird during her talk with lee, but I still liked her and couldn't believe she'd die a few moments later by the hands of Lilly! so all with all an awesome game for meeeeeeeaaa! |
