Mr. and Mrs. SMith, in my opinion, was a pretty good movie
[snip]
And as far as iconic characters go it's unfair to ask who can replace Harrison Ford. Anyone can replace him if they embody the character right. Han Solo is his own entity and Harrison Ford was the right person at the right time to bring to life that character. But that doesn't mean he can't be substituted. Look at the new Star Trek. So many asked who could play the iconic original crew. How could you replace Shatner and Nimoy and Takei? Well the answer is easy. Get good actors who can dive into those personalities. And I trust Disney to do just that. For good or ill Disney has shown a knack for putting the right person in the right character.
I didn't mean to imply that Mr. and Mrs. Smith was a bad movie. It was good silly fun, and that's all it was trying to be. But it was hardly Star Wars caliber. Add X-Men 3 on top of that, and you can see where my doubts are coming from. I admit, I haven't read the script for X-3, so maybe it was fantastic and the director just screwed it up. That's totally plausible, and it's certainly happened before. But I'm going to wait for more information on what direction he goes with the movie first.

Harrison Ford as Han Solo was one of those rare occasions where an actor fuses with a character so perfectly that no one else could ever play them as well ever again. The character isn't just part of the actor, the actor is part of the character. The original cast of Star Trek was indeed iconic, but it's apples and oranges to this situation. Here's the thing

Mark Hamill- replaceable, but very, very difficult
Carrie Fisher- replaceable
Billy Dee Williams- replaceable
Harrison Ford- irreplaceable

I'm not saying that the person they find to replace him will be bad, but it will be incredibly difficult to get someone who will even come close to measuring up. If you put them on an acting scale, they could be an 8, 9, or even a 10 in the role, but Harrison Ford is still a 37. I find it inconceivable that they'll find someone who can merge with the character the way he did. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there's some nobody in Hollywood struggling through auditions with such incredible raw acting talent that he can completely reshape everyone's perception of Han Solo. Maybe the major studios won't give him a chance and he's about to get his big break. I really doubt it though.

Well then there's your problem right there Himmel. You put Harrison Ford on this mile high pedestal. I think Harrison Ford did an amazing job but I don't think he did such a good job that no one will ever touch his performance. But seeing how highly you think of Ford's performance DOES shed light on just WHY you are so wary of what's coming down the line.
