The universe seems neither benign nor hostile, merely indifferent. -Carl Sagan
Really? Maybe it's just me, but I would abandon my dog in a second. Screw Fido, I don't want to lose an arm in a tornado. And of course he didn't realize he would die, but I just can't fathom one risking one's life to the extent he did, as the storm loomed above him so menacingly and approached so quickly, just to save a dog.

MY OPINIONS ON MAN OF STEEL BECAUSE I AM SO IMPORTANT EVERYONE NEEDS TO HEAR THEM (Not really at all, I just feel like sharing them. Feel free to, you know, not read if you don't want to)

I watched it twice, the first time I got the "Its just an action movie" feel, but the second time I noticed some things I did not before, I got more into the mood the movie was trying to set, and I overall felt much better about the movie. One thing I want to say is that this movie features a Superman that is not like the superman in the comics at all, which I think is a good thing. They wanted to do a more realistic look on the blue boy scout, and to do so they could not let him be the blue boy scout anymore. We are dealing with a younger less experienced Superman. We are dealing with a Superman that cannot be everywhere at once saving every single person. A superman that does not have 10-50 years of fighting those that would harm humanity. I love this. I want Kal-El to be a symbol of hope while not being a fricken adnd paladin. But that is just me.

The CGI was beautiful, it really was. It made the fighting just epic, just plain epic, which was a nice change from the last superman movie we got in which literally nothing happened the entire movie. They had to tell the fourth most widely known origin story on the planet, so I am glad the flashbacks were fairly short. It let them be cool and informative of the new direction the movie was taking with the story without holding back to much of the time. I also have heard complaints about how much of the movie was on Krypton, but for Rao's sake it was soooo cool. The sci-fi (Or syfy as the silly television channel would have it spelled)was great, again really enforcing the new identity they were putting on this Superman.

In all honesty I cannot see a single big thing wrong with this movie, its not perfect, but I think it might be one of the better superhero movies I have ever seen, up there with some of the batman movies, the Thor movie, the two good Iron man movies, Captain America, Hancock I thought was actually really good, The Avengers I need to put in there, Hellboy, ect. I would even say that among Superman movies this one is right there at the top with Christopher Reeve's. (Both MoS and the Christopher Reeve Superman movies (The good ones) were great but for different reasons, so I think they can all share the spot as best superman movies. Also I suck at listing things in a top ten fashion.)

Staying on the subject of Superman, I recently saw Superman: Unbound.

The story is pretty good. It deals with Braniac and the city of Kandor. It seems to be in continuity with the other DC animated films, particularly Superman/Batman: Apocolypse. However, the art style is very different from the DCAU art style most of the movies have sported. Instead, it's more in line with the blockier art style used in both parts of The Dark Knight Returns. I'm not really a fan of it, but it works well enough here. It's something completely different from the rounder style seen in most western animation and the angular style seen in most eastern animation, so some people might find it refreshing. The animation is top notch, though there are some parts where they used rather obvious shortcuts. Particularly the use of anime style speed lines in one of the earlier fights. The voice acting is good for the most part. Lois Lane's voice actress (I can't be bothered to look up her name right now) in particular does a wonderful job. However, Supergirl's voice is just... off. It's not bad per se, but it's a very emotional role and the actress's inflection doesn't match the facial expressions of the character most of the time. I don't imagine this'll be a huge problem for anyone, but it's worth mentioning.

I don't know if I'd say it's worth the full price of the DVD. If you're a fan of the DC animated films, you probably already own it, so you don't need me to tell you to get it. But it's definitely worth the four bucks to rent it from Amazon, and Netflix will probably get the rights to stream it eventually.

*Dusts off thread*

Come on people! Movies!

World War Z:

I'm not going to compare it to the book because it wouldn't stand a chance if I did that. Taken on its own, it's a pretty okay movie. It's nothing spectacular, but it isn't terrible either. The zombie effects are pretty rough, and very obviously CG in the wider shots. I figured they'd clean it up after the way people reacted to the effects in the trailers, but nope. When they actually do use makeup and practical effects, they're passable if nothing groundbreaking. Overall, it's nothing too special. It's an okay way to pass the time, but it could have been much better.

TL;DR Go see it. The positives far outweigh the negatives.

Went to see Pacific Rim with expectations as low as possible. Good movie, didn't feel like Del Toro at all, but good. Maybe not too memorable, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. B- seems reasonable. I do have to say, though, 3D might be one of my least favorite inventions of mankind.

As for fans of Sci Fi, I cannot recommend Cloud Atlas enough, and Contact if you haven't already seen it is awesome.

Finally got around to seeing The Truman Show. Odin's beard, watch it now.
