Well, since this seems heavily debated here, I'll just say it now and not debate on it: It depends on how you treat your animals. If you treat them like a slave, then sure that'd be one interpretation. But there's also something else you have to consider: if your animals grow up with you, then you're like family to them and they're like family to you. I would wager to say that if you picked a full grown animal off the street that didn't want to be put in a home, then it's possibly like slavery in a way. One thing I will say though is that there are two sides to every coin. If you only give people the choice of wrong or right, things are never going to be handled. Personally, as you see above, I'm looking at two different aspects of it. As long as opinions exist, debates can never be settled unless there's balance on both sides of the matter. That being said, you're all entitled to your own opinions; I'm just sharing mine.

I personally view it pretty much the same as Darkness; If one takes good care, and is genuinely nice to their pet, the pet becomes a loved companion that for sure loves you back.

But if one treats their pet like poop, then I'd consider it slavery.

Treatment of ANY individual is a relative term. A dog who's loved of the streets and had a rough life is usually just glad to have a roof over their head and some food on a daily basis. But a dog who's know nothing but that, will consider a comfey chair and lots of cuddles on a daily basis (atop of food and shelter) being treated good

You don't want to see my list for good treatment, because few dog owners live up to such standards. However, I will note this when it comes to many (if not all) dog foods; YEIKES!

the two simple facts that are between the line of slave or free are these, would you cry if the animal was hurt or killed? and Do you consider the animal and yourself to be loyal friends to each other? Also to add to this is that once you live with your friend for a while you both start to understand each others actions, feelings, and moods and start to comfort each other. An example of this is that when one of my relatives died and I started crying as a child my dog saw this and came over to me and curled up beside me and put his head down on my leg. This is a communication being the human and animal that some people go as far as to call them their children and best friend.

Well I know for a fact dogs have souls since a priest actually did a study and like humans, when a dog dies they loose a lot of weight which to the guy doing the tests is the soul leaving the body.

There's an error in that logic. That only would work if a soul is physical. that could easily be decay or something like that.

Another error of logic is the fact that animals have feelings and to show those there would have to be a spirit of love or another spirit of source to have such things. A soul is also an essence which is regarded as a living thing.
