So I've seen that quite a few people dislike Connor from AC3. I don't really get why? I liked Connor, I thought he was fun to play as and fun to learn about.

I've heard people say that he was too angry and brooding and never really was happy and joking like Ezio. Honestly? I'm okay with that, if he were exactly like Ezio I'd be irritated. Plus in AC3 the very mention of Charles Lee makes Connor's blood boil. Upon seeing him he wants to start a fight with him in front of the entire continental congress. Ezio never seemed to be that angry at any of the Borgia. Especially in Brotherhood when he seems perfectly calm when fighting Cesare, who killed his uncle! If I was fighting someone who'd killed a close member of my family I'd be super pissed!

As for Haytham well this stems from a Ubisoft thread I saw where someone said that Haytham's Prologue was too long and shouldn't have been in the game at all. I personally disagree, from a story telling point of view it was really good, especially because it draws parallels between the Assassins and Templars. I think it would be nice if during a second playthrough you could skip the prologue but over all I really like it, and I like Haytham's character.

So I ask, what do you think of these two characters?

Spoilers for Assassin's Creed III

I didn't hate Connor, but he was basically styrofoam in terms of characterization. He's a guy who's angry all the time, and then he's more angry, then he gets super angry, then he gets a bit less angry. There's nothing wrong with building a character around a certain emotion, but fuck, there needs to be more to it than that. The occasions when he isn't angry, he's basically cardboard. The only real exceptions to this are the genuinely sad moments we get after Achilles' death.

Connor is Native American, the first protagonist to be part of an openly subjugated ethnicity in the Assassin's Creed series, and it never amounts to anything other than basic lip-service. He lacks Altair's charisma and Ezio's affable nature, and he doesn't really bring anything new to the table. And what little he has in the way of an arc never comes close to the arc the other protagonists go through, even Desmond.

I'm not the biggest fan of Haytham. He's absolutely terrific as a villain, maybe the best the series has had. But as a character, not so much. His story was only mildly interesting and the "twist"-- if you can even call it that-- was so blatantly telegraphed that I'm surprised they actually kept it a twist. I think it could have made for more interesting moments if you were just told straight up that you were playing as a Templar.

Instead we spend far too long skirting around what is supposed to be the main conflict, because none of the main characters are allowed to say the words "Assassin" or "Templar." And just to make sure that absolutely everyone figures it out, the organization is constantly referred to as an Order rather than a Brotherhood. They could have sent a representative from Ubisoft to your house after you purchased the game to hit you in the face with a frying pan that says "Haytham is a Templar" and it would have been more subtle.

The leads pretty much reflect my opinion of the entire game. Not terrible by any means, but far more mediocre than they had any right to be given everything they had going for them.

Conner I thought was a character who was mad most of the time than a little glad here and there. I wish that he enjoyed life a more than he did because for me I enjoy a more light hearted mood.

The into were you play as a Templar I thought was a good twist. Himmelgeher I say that the Brotherhood could have changed its name or what it meant to the order over time and maybe for you it was ovoius but for others like myself it was a serprise.

Haytham I enjoyed his personality calm, relaxed and his way of words is what made me like him.

I will go into more details maybe tomarwow.
