Actually Vos, Skyrim and New Vegas were developed by different people. New Vegas was developed by Obsidian and Skyrim was developed by Bethesda. Bethesda did however publish New Vegas.

Originality. Don't take this to mean the wrong thing, this isn't a complaint about there being 6 Resident Evils or 5 GTAs or anything like that. It's the issue that so many games these days feel... samey. Like, take a look at some of the most recent games by the big Triple-A developers. The Last of Us, for example, is by no means a bad game, but it's not very original. It's a powerful, emotional game, but it still feels like a generic 3PS/Stealth game. Bioshock Infinite, I have my problems with, but it's still a game 9/10 people are gonna love. But the gameplay and the plot are, for all intents and purposes, a fancier Bioshock. Granted the story goes in a different direction, but [SPOILER ALERT] it is intentionally similar to Bioshock. Marketability is overshadowing creativity. Look at Dead Rising 3! The first two games were oddball and clever and fun, but now it's become just another zombie survival game, with a twist of lemon. Heck, it's even bleeding over to the indie titles. Games like Minecraft or Super Meat Boy or the like were a refuge from this... creativity vacuum in the bigger part of gaming, but even now, how many indie games are just the new dungeon-crawler roguelike-like RPG of the week?
And, let me just diverge for a moment... I don't hate uncreative games. I thoroughly enjoyed The Last of Us, and that's after playing all 3 Uncharted games. I've played every TT Lego game to date (except Harry Potter 2) and I still plan on buying Lego Marvel Superheroes. I don't have an inherent problem with games that are easy to sell. I just wish there was more in the industry, and I know that won't happen, but the point of this thread is just to sound off opinions, right?
You wanna know what some of the most fun games I've played are? Not the "best" mind you, just the most fun. Psychonauts. Shadow of the Colossus. Portal. These are absolutely not the best games I know of. They aren't polished. They have some important issues that get overlooked. They're way too short. And I attribute these problems, not to the game makers, but to the market staff. Polishing, length, these are things you get when you're making a game in a Triple-A studio like Irrational or Naughty Dog. But Double Fine and Team Ico have people with original ideas that would be amazing to see made by one of these teams. Portal actually got that, with Portal 2, which... has problems of its own, mostly because it's, well, a sequel.
I think the best example I can give of a fully developed, original game is AntiChamber. Now, this wasn't made by a big studio. In fact, quite the opposite, I believe it was made by precisely one person. But he did it over 6 years, and didn't have to worry of marketability or anything else a large studio has to deal with, and that's why it came out so well. The developer had the opportunity to make a full, original game -- to make exactly what he wanted it to be -- and that is just something you don't get with studios or teams, but the point still stands, we haven't "run out of ideas." Quite the contrary! With new technology, there are more and more opportunities for unique games like AntiChamber, and my hope is that big teams take advantage of this, and develop out of their comfort zone. Make more experimental games and take chances. But, of course, with the economic factors involved, this is hardly a climate for experimentation, so I'm afraid we're going to have to wait. The only bright side is that, with indie gaming still steadily rising, there's more and more market for games like AntiChamber. And if I get even one more game of that quality and thought and originality, I'll be ecstatic.

Wow, sorry for the wall of text... guess I had a lot to say on this topic. :$

Here is a man who is easily pleased.

And here is a man who isn't. Originality seems to be a popular option. I am skeptical of originality myself, or rather I loathe 'innovation'.

Are those boobs? I can't tell. Maybe it's the word knead putting images in my head.

I also have this funny idea of Tora becoming dictator of games and decreeing that all games need more fun in them. Like the Walking Dead in a teary eyed moment suddenly has Lee with a minigun mowing down the whole of Savannah while Ride of the Valkyries plays. Or all moments of pathos in games are replaced by a picture of a cute panda.

Haha, the irony only hit me after the fact, but I suppose wanting originality isn't a very original opinion.

Lol to elaborate what I mean is that what I think video games should do is do what they were created to do if that's figuring puzzles, making the players feel like they have accomplish something and feeling satisfied or a horror game that makes its players frightened for the experience. What I meant by fun is that video games should do what they were created to do.

Are you saying that video games these days aren't fun? Because fun is a really REALLY subjective word, maybe the most subjective word in the English language.

However if you aren't saying that then I don't really understand the point of your post. I'm not trying to be rude or condescending, I just don't get it.
