While the Array's come in several different models, each have several upgrades over older sensor arrays. Even the heavy transport array is more sensitive than most older model arrays. * Darkstar Comm Array - The Darkstar Comm Array is named after one of Gabriel Sumigato's close friends, a Jedi whom at the time of the design of the Comm Array was presumed dead. It utilizes a Combination of Laser and Subspace Communication arrays and an advanced encryption module. It transmits packets of information on multiple lines of communication and frequencies, so that anyone listening into one frequency, or even ten, will get only a partial transmission. Each Darkstar Comm Array is able to receive all of these packets and reorder them into the correct message in under a nanosecond. The Shard-class is Admiral Sumigato's upgrade to the older A-Wings. Where the A-Wings were custom built from scrap and extra parts, mostly a hull strapped to two engines, the Shard is a hull designed around those two engines. By optimizing the flow of the Ionic energy and tweaking with the parabolic curves to the engines cones, the new Quicksilver Gravitic Ion Engines can propel a Shard-class vessel to speeds unheard of in all but the fastest missiles. This engine uses gravitic technology to give it additional speed boosts. The stronger a gravitational field, the more maneuverable the Shard becomes. It allows side ways slides, full rotations and several other maneuvers hitherto impossible. Most technology involving gravitics in this universe centered around weaponry and sensors, even in hyperdrives. Its the Gravitic part of the engines that make most pilots wary of it. With six maneuvering jets in the nose and aft portions of the hull, and six maneuvering fins for atmospheric flight each with two maneuvering jet on each of these fins it also has near unprecedented maneuverability. Unfortunately this also makes piloting this vessel obscenely difficult. Even most Pilot Droids and Jedi have trouble with it. The Shard's speed and high maneuverability required an increased amount of inertial dampners, and because of the vessels tiny size this necessitated removing the rest of the life support functions. Pilots have an armored and shielded cabin to shield them from the particles of space and atmosphere, but are required to wear a flightsuit to survive the vacuum of space. Armed with barely enough shields to protect it from space particles and radiation, chaff launchers and two chin mounted laser cannons it is extremely light on defense and attack. The Laser cannons were used because there is no room for ammo-packs. The new Elerune Scout Sensor array allows it to identify and track literally hundred of thousands of targets, and relay this info back to the main force. The ship is barely more than these sensors, maneuvering fins, jets, nav shielding, flight comp and engines. Only one hundred pilots in all of the Galactic Federation Defense Force are rated to fly these vessels, and most pilots wont try again even in simulators. |
