There were rare times when Han Solo was glad he wasn't flying his Falcon, and this was one of them. As much as he preferred his baby, the ship that seemed to guess his intent and reacted to the controls with perfect precision and ease, he would never want to see this kind of damage done to her. The small fleet was limping more than travelling toward the planet, and they could be counted lucky. Despite the damage and the fact that not one ship had escaped unscathed the group was still nearly complete. Ships could be repaired. Losses were much harder to deal with. Ord Mandell was a planet a little on the wayside, not really significant enough to warrant a lot of imperial attention, but it was big and civilized enough to sport the facilities needed for semi extensive ship repair. The junkyards should yield any parts they needed. And plain, it was the best place within reach. Damaged hyperdrives clearly limited your choices. As they swooped in to land, Han could already see the Falcon waiting. Chewie was just so wonderfully dependable. The small fleet of ships settled down near the Falcon like fledgling around the mother hen, and Han quickly sent out another message over the shared channel. "Alright boys and girls, we don't want to stay here any longer than we have to. So get going with checking over the ships and give me a full damage report and list of necessary parts asap." |

As soon as the ships had landed those of the crews with some mechanical skill started inspecting the hulls and power grids, running diagnostics on the hyperdrives and sensor arrays and just plain getting a good idea of how extensive the damage really was. The internal sensors had already delivered a good estimate, but there was just nothing like the good old-fashioned hands-on assessment. That was something Jon couldn't help with. Mostly the Alliance used him as a slicer nowadays, which he had to admit was his main skill. No matter his original intentions, he was good at it. Also, since joining the Alliance he had received a great deal of combat training so that by now he felt almost useful in general - just not now. Jon was one of those who had moved out to form a perimeter around the ships. Guard duty, usually easy and boring - and you always hoped it stayed boring. |

Han had spent just enough time around the mission command ship as was necessary to appear proper before heading over to the Falcon, where he greeted his co-pilot and companion. Chewie was quite happy to see him, and Han knew that was because the Whookie didn't like watching his friend heading out into danger alone. Han wouldn't like it either, if their roles were reversed. Strange, at first the furry guy's insistence to stick around had been mostly irritating, but by now they had become really good friends. Chewbacca had been looking around for imperial activity nearby but found none. Han took that as heartening news, even though he knew better than to rely on that too much. Just because you couldn't spot them didn't always mean they weren't there. The sooner the groupp could pack up and get out of here the better. |

The ‘fleet’, if it could even be called that, had taken a beating and Leia was about ready to bash some heads together for not picking up the Imperial traffic near Anobis. She understood that cloaking technology made it difficult sometimes, but there had been an Imperial 1st Class Star Destroyer up there! If he knew, Governor Vellam would be laughing at her. All right, she was officially in a foul mood and it was not insignificantly caused by the fact that they were now stranded on Ord Mantell to make repairs. At least they had suffered no losses she quickly reminded herself, thankful for small mercies. The least she could do was make herself useful and see to it that they got off the inconvenient rock as quickly as possible. The new Alliance stronghold on Homon was in desperate need of manpower and the group she now travelled with was the closest hope for establishing a strong presence there. Furthermore, there were two Amanaman spies aboard that were in possession of urgent intelligence regarding Imperial operations in the Arkanis Sector and she had to see that General Rieekan was able to debrief them. There was urgency about the situation that made her anxious, as always, to be moving and doing something, so she took to arranging security details and overlooking Captain Antilles plans for establishing a perimeter in which repairs could commence uninterrupted. Soon it was done to satisfaction and she stepped off of the command ship and issued instructions to some nearby technicians who were acting as part-time guard duty. Noticing Han making his way toward the Falcon, she followed him without ceremony and began to ask questions, as was so often her way. “How long do you think before we can leave?” it was not argumentative, merely focused and got straight to the point, as was also often her way. |

No sooner had Chewbacca managed to relay all the information he had gathered for Han - little as it was - about the situation on Ord Mandell, the princess showed up. Her presence, as always, was something of a sore spot, not really painful, but in a vague way troublesome. On the other hand, she was something to look at. Seeing her without hearing would be perfect. Unfortunately, so far Han had never had that pleasure. However, the question she asked was one that his mind had been filled with almost ever since they made the inevitable decision to land here. "The short answer: too long." He said, and squinted against the light reflecting off one of the ships. "Chewie tells me he couldn't find any sign of Imperial activity around here, but that doesn't mean anything." "If we are lucky and quickly find all the parts we need pretty much right away, two or three hours minimum. If not, add however long it take to aquire those parts." There were a lot of ifs involved here. Another if was how long it would take to get the final damage assessment together. Even in complicated cases he hoped that wouldn't take longer than maybe half an hour, preferably less. Even without any obvious Imperial activity in the area he just did not like playing sitting ducks. "I hope you brought a lot of credits, princess. Speed tends to cost extra in places like this." It was a sign of how tense he felt that he didn't make his usual effort to come up with some new annoying title for Leia. |

Leia’s frame visibly shifted at Han’s first answer, her agitation growing with every moment that they were forced to be so unavoidably vulnerable. She gave a rough sigh and followed his gaze towards the ailing fleet as he commented on the lack of Imperial Activity. “It won’t take Governor Vellam long to figure out where we disappeared to, but he usually keeps the smallest of his active squads in this system,” she shrugged, “if he realises we have informants down here, we may still be able to defend ourselves, but not for long.” Leia listened carefully as Han weighed the variables, knowing full well that his first estimation was probably the most poignant one. If they were lucky. It so often came down to something as menial as luck and she would have thought she would be used to it by now, but it irked her nonetheless. Surely the universe should realize, at some point, that they were the good guys? Her mind had just got to ticking over various strategies that might help this little hitch along, her head turning sharply as Han mentioned credits. She gave him a wry smile, the irony dripping off her words as she looked at him, “Well, it’s nice to know there are still a few of us in it for mere conscience.” She placed her hands on her hips as she thought for a moment, weighing up what he had told her for herself. Finally, she spoke, “We should probably start sourcing suppliers on this scrapheap. Finding one we can trust will probably be about as easy as finding a rancor with fresh breath. Wedge can probably spare a couple of men for a reconnaissance team and send us the wish-list when the final diagnostics are in.” |

Han thought about it for a moment. The idea sounded good, but it meant splitting up their forces, which in this situation would be a risk. The question was whether the potential gain could outweigh that risk. After a few moments of contemplation he figured that yes, it was worth a try. The next problem was Leia wanting to go. Sure, Han had seen first hand that she could take care of herself, but... Really, his reluctance with her being part of that party didn't have anything to do with worrying about her. It was just.. just.. this was the kind of thing he liked to do himself and he just knew she would interfere. Right. That was it. And to fully point out how screwed the situation was, they didn't even have time for him to argue with her about that. "It's a good idea. That should save us time time we might need to negotiate a price. Traders in places like this tend to be cutthroats. Do yourself a favor and try not to look too princess-y. They might not like that and I really don't have time to deal with that on top of all the other trouble we got." "I'll go talk to Wedge. You start picking out the team, and we'll meet here in five minutes ready to go." Han was quite a ware that five minutes were not a whole lot for assembling a team like this, but unlike him, Leia who knew most people involved in this operation, would be able to do it. |

Captain Solo was lucky they were in a tight spot, or Leia might have taken offence to his calling her ‘princess-y’, or indeed to the way he had casually begun to order her about. Well, she had of course taken offence, but she might’ve been forced to act on it had their predicament prevented them from wasting time on such trivial things as arguing. She settled instead for a sarcastic, “We’re lucky we have you here to think of these things.” With that, she turned towards her task, the desire to get things moving overriding any desire to hear Han’s response. Though, she did wonder for a moment at that inclination, quickly suppressing the thought that she might like to hear anything the Corellian had to say and turning, as always to the task at hand. She did a quick calculation of the exact number of men that would be necessary to maintain Captain Antilles’s defence plans and which would be indispensible to the repair processes. It was tight and she resolved to commandeer as few men as possible, the protection of the fleet being priority number one. It was then that she noticed one of the young men who had been liberated from an Imperial Prison shortly before Yavin, a Data Processing Technician as she remembered, her political training benefitting her with good recall. Pinnat she believed his name was. He was clearly on guard duty, but Leia had no qualms about pulling him off that sector. He had proved resourceful before, slicing the Imperial network and delivering some vital information to the Alliance, he might prove useful again. She approached him, her tone a little brusque in light of the urgency of the situation, “Mr Pinnat? Come with me, if you will.” She selected a young soldier from the crew aboard the command ship, as well, to improve the security of the team, and decided that that would be enough. She hardly wanted to draw attention as Han had intimated earlier with his comment on her ‘Princess-ness’, so the smaller the team, the better. This done, she returned to the rendezvous point and turned to her new recruits. “We’re going to head out and begin sourcing parts for the repairs, the quicker we do that, the quicker we can get off this junk-pile. Any questions?” It was not the most inspiring of her given speeches, but it got the message across. |

Jon was more than happy to follow princess Leia, having no second thoughts about leaving his post to do whatever else he might be of help with. There might be worse guards, but off the bat, he couldn't think of anyone. For a while he was anxious he might get asked to join special guard duty, but relaxed when the princess explained the situation. This was actually something where he might have a chance of actually being useful. No, there were no more questions, just a little extra he needed to do. He excused himself for a quick sprint to get his datapad and other equipment, which now lived in a small backpack, always ready to be grabbed at a moment's notice, and was back and ready to go in no time. Next he contemplated whether to switch the blaster rifle for a handblaster, but decided to keep the rifle. While being an awful shot with either weapon, the rifle offered a little bit more accuracy. Accuracy which he hoped would not be needed. It was when he saw Captain Solo walk over that Jon started to feel nervous again. Princess Leia had not specifically mentioned it, but quite a bit seemed to hinge on this small party. "I don't suppose those traders keep inventories of their parts on some system hooked up to the holonet?" That would make things just a little too easy. |

As he had said he would, Han went straight to Wedge, being joined by Chewie only moments later. The Whookie had just hung back long enough to grab some extra power packs. Han did not even have to ask what he wanted, so having thought about it in advance, the man instantly shook his head. "You can't come along Chewie. We have to keep a low profile, and you're about half a parsec too tall for a low profile. Besides, I need you here with the Falcon. Keep her ready to take off. If something happens, we might have to blast our way out of here with no time to pre-flight routines. Chewie argued, naturally, but Han remained firm, knowing that if he really drove the message home the Whookie would consent in the end, even though he still followed Han to the meeting point. At those occasions it was usually best to ignore him, so Han focused on the task ahead instead. "Kid, we're lucky if these cutthroats keep files at all." he commented, and it was true enough. "In any case you won't get to them via the holonet. If we at some point want to get more information than someone is willing to part with we'd have to find an access point to their private systems. But that would mean this is getting harder than we think it will. We just have to play it nice and easy and pretend we're not desperate for those parts at all." "Wedge already gave me a preliminary list, so let's go. The first address isn't all that far. According to Chewie it's just a ten minute walk, even with shorter legs than his." That last sentence was directed at Leia, and Han barely took the time to point in the right direction before setting out. |
