Run-in at Ord Mandell; sometime between ANH and ESB

Leia Organa
Leia had been about to answer Pinnat’s question to the negative when Han had returned and filled in the gap. It had not taken long for him to get back and take charge. Leia reserved comment, knowing full well that he would be best to run point on this assignment, however it might challenge her sensibilities. She did, however, look questioningly at Chewbacca, wondering if he was intending on accompanying them. For if he was, she certainly had something to say about that. Her looking ‘Princess-y’ would instantly be rendered irrelevant if they made their presence known with an eight-foot Wookie…

She listened carefully to the discussion regarding the planet-wide records of parts and had to agree that it was unlikely that any real record was kept of anything on Ord Mantell, save the private records of the thugs who know doubt ran it. She had heard that planets such as these had long memories, so it was best they stayed out of trouble and kept beneath the radar.

As Han addressed her, she nodded, having little else to add, which for her was an uncomfortable position. Luckily, her mind had a knack for inventing objects that needed to be discussed, her mouth falling in step even as her feet did, moving in the same direction as the Corellian. “We should prioritize our search, indispensables first, we need to get the fleet at least functioning as quickly as possible.”

Han Solo
They headed out, and while Han made full use of the length of his legs, Leia made use of her voice, with one of those utterly unnecessary comments. Of course they needed the most important parts first. What did she think he was? Stupid?

Quite likely, he reflected, and there even had to be some truth in it, because Han couldn't manage to just ignore her and that remark. She always did this. Politicians! There had to be courses in how to be maximum annoying without saying a word out of line. Han did not have the luxury of that kind of training or talent, and he was glad for it. As a smuggler, he could say whatever he liked however he liked, as long as he delivered the cargo in time.

Come to think of it, it had been one failure to deliver the cargo that got him into this mess to begin with. He wouldn't be owing jabba that insane amount of credits, he wouldn't have taken that crazy old man and Luke as passenger, he wouldn't have gotten involved in this rebellion madness.

"Princess, we're looking for nothing more than getting the fleet functioning enough to get home. Indispensables only. No one is looking for a paint job right now."

Leia Organa
Leia had very nearly reached the point of expecting Han to offer some juvenile crack at any of her suggestions, but that did not render it any less infuriating when he did. Well, of course she hadn’t expected them to be on a search for trivialities, she had simply wanted to prioritise their mission in a manner which would make it most efficient. It wasn’t as though they were picking out furniture. She felt that increasingly familiar frustration rising at him, which seemed to move faster towards outrage each time they clashed. She restrained herself from openly antagonizing him further, aware that they were in the company of those that she was required to lead. After all, she was an adult.

“Thank you Captain, you’ve set my mind so at ease,” her sarcasm was palpable. Damn it, why did he make her feel like she had to respond? Her footsteps had become increasingly as if she were stalking across the landscape, totally of their own volition. “I’ll be sure to curb any hopes I had for improving my Sabacc deck while I was out here.” She smiled forcibly at him. Really, sometimes he brought out the worst in her. Most times, in fact.

”Where the hell is this place?” the less time she spent talking to him, the better.

Han Solo
Han Solo was not so unskilled in social situations that he did not notice the sarcasm, nor that he hadn't known his words wouldn't be taken kindly. It was simply that this woman drove him toward the edge far enough that he did not care - even less than usual. With her around he always became somewhat defensive, something Han did not like at all - which sent his manners down the scale even further.

Luckily for him - for everyone, really - the issue athand called, and practical matter were so much easier to deal with than a princess with a quick tongue. "Chewie said it's just around that bend. And I think it's starting to look promising."

Junk shops tended to leave their marks around, even the more cleaned-up sophisticated ones. It was as if spare parts and pieces simply refused to stay in the confined space alloted to them. The first nuts and bolts were already visible here and there at the side of the road. "It can't be far now."

It wasn't. The moment the group rounded the bend they nearly literally found their way blocked by parts of various sizes, more or less neatly stacked. "Seems like we found it. Now it's probably best if you and me go in alone. We don't anyone to get nervous with..."

Even while Han was talking a very short and plump human emerged from the shop, heading straight toward them with that single-mindedness that was customary for all salespeople all over the galaxy. "Ah, dear Sirs and Madam. Might you be interested in my wares? I have a great selection of parts from every kind of device, ship and weapon you can imagine. And if something is not in stock I am sure I can obtain it .. for a price, of course."
