full name: Jason Tham date of birth: 21 BBY home: Toprawa species: Human occupation: Fugitive affiliation: On his own, but looking for Alliance connections. general appearance: ![]() 5' 9" and very lean at first glance. His hair, about as long as military regulations would have permitted, is black and generally unkempt. While he usually wears a variety of simple casual clothing when not working, his mission garb almost always consists of a long sleeved black shirt with a high neck, black pants, black gloves a belt with a variety of pouches and pockets and two knife holsters, one strapped to each thigh. distinguishing features: While no one would notice it in public, his back and torso are covered by a number of large scars, most obtained through his life but a few gained during his escape. The one thing that sets him apart from a crowd at first glance would be the look in hs eyes - while he is generally good at acting like a normal person, closer inspection would reveal a flat, slightly dead look in his eyes. indispensables: Even when he isn't working Jason had long since gotten into the habit of carrying his fully equiped belt with him, which rarely ever stands out unless he is in finer company. The belt is home to a number of miniturized gas and smoke capsules for personal defense, as well as two long lengths of wire and an equal number of miniturized winches. The wire itself is made of a mixture of a flexible, conductive metal and carbon nanofiber, making it almost indestructible to anything short of a lightsaber or several well placed shots from a blaster rifle, assuming they all hit the same spot. On the leading end of the cable is a small, triangular caribiner made out of heavier, more conventional metals. When combined with the miniwinch, which is capable of lifting a grown man with little trouble, the cable can act as a multipurpose tool, allowing for an improvised weapon, grappling hook, belay line and several other possible uses that are even further diversified when combined with his custom made knives which have clips on the pommel bases, designed to be used in tandem with the caribiners. While Jason normally has a number of concealed blades and other weapons on his person, he has a special attachment to a pair of customized knives which he carries with him whenever he is permitted to do so. While Jason is an extremely capable combatant with or without any weapons he is particularly skilled with these blades, even outstripping most Storm Commandos in terms of sheer lethality. Passed down his family since the days of the Old Republic, these weapons are some of the few remaining objects related to Jedi history that were not in the Emporer's possession by the time of the Battle of Yavin, and have Cortosis weave in the blades. likes: * Food - NEVER treat him to a meal and offer to let him order whatever he wants. Despite his appearance, Jason will empty your wallet then and there. * Quiet - Due to the nature of his former life, quiet surroundings was one of the few signs that things were safe enough to relax. While he wouldn't admit or show it, constant sound from artificial sources makes him slightly twitchy after a few hours. dislikes: * Imperials, both on principal and for personal reasons. If bombing his world into another stone age hadn't been enough, his mentor and family had been killed in the first attack. * Waiting - While patience was one of the core tenants of being a Ranger and Jason has since learned to tolerate it, it doesn't mean that he's learned to like it. Jason would much rather be doing things than sitting around. strengths: * Extremely lethal - While he's had relatively little to no training with blaster weaponry, Jason is lethal to the point where mere practice and training with his weapons of choice don't even begin to explain his aptitude. Quick, silent and ruthlessly efficient, commando work seems to suit him naturally. * Antarian Ranger - While the name of the group itself tends to be slightly misleading, Jason had actually earned the rank of Ranger by the very young age of seventeen before his world came under Imperial subjugation. A master of stealth and movement through every conceivable kind of terrain as well as surviving in harsh environments with minimal supplies, Jason proved impossible to catch for Imperial forces on Toprawa, even managing to take the fight back to them despite severely limited resources and information. This training is also the explanation for his natural physical strength, speed, and dexterity, and had it not been for the relative malnutrition he was subject to before escaping Toprawa Jason likely be at the peak of human physical ability for his age and build. * Force Sensitive - An aspect of his lineage that Jason himself is still unaware of, his sensitivity isn't particularly strong, but it's far from weak. This is what makes him as deadly as he is in combat, and what made him so successful as a Ranger; while he'll likely never manifest this ability to the point that the Jedi of old were ever able to even with training, his danger sense is extremely strong, allowing him to evade ambushes and other obstacles by instinct alone. weaknesses/bad habits: * Little to no actual formalized training - As it stands, the only training that Jason has received has been his Ranger training, which encompassed stealth, mobility, hand to hand combat and limited training with bladed weapons. Jason is incapable of using any explosives or heavy weaponry, and while he will likely pick up the skill quickly he is a horrible shot with blaster weapons, having never used one in his life. * Hard living - While this will quickly fade with time, Jason's life on Toprawa and the weeks during and after his escape have been much harder on his than he would admit. While his speed still borders on inhuman and he is capable of incredible feats in terms of mobility, in a straight out contest of strength with most anyone he will likely lose. His endurance has also taken a major hit - where he would have been capable of running over rough terrain for hours at a time, he can barely keep going for more than a half an hour now. While he is still quite capable of killing one or two pursuers, he has for the most part lost the ability to outrun them or take on more than two opponents at a time. personality: Jason is fairly easy to get along with, even if he's somewhat quiet. He's not one to brag, and as long as you're not too boastful or prideful he'll generally accept you as you are, no questions asked (unless you've done something to place yourself on his blacklist). Even though he's pretty accepting of people in general, there are a few easy ways to place yourself in the second category, a place that very few sane individuals would want to be. He was once a fairly kind individual, but hard living has turned him in a cold, calculating, ruthless individual. While he loathes the Imperials for what they did to his homeworld, he won't kill one unless it will directly benefit him then and there, and ever since his world had been bombed to rubble logic and a drive for self preservation have become the motivating forces in Jason's life. While he would like nothing more than to bring the fight back to the Imperials as he had on Toprawa, keeping one step ahead of them has been the only thing in his mind since escaping, and if given a chance to join the Rebellion he would do it in a heartbeat. family: (All deceased) Rachel Tham (mother) Corbin Tham (father) Sia Tham (sister) Ulen Tham (uncle/ mentor) other important people: None history: Born 21 standard years prior to the Battle of Yavin on the world of Toprawa, Jason was for all intensive purposes a normal boy at first glance, at least until he reached the age of 10, when the option was presented to him to follow in his ancestors' footsteps by joining the by then dwindling Antarian Rangers. By that point the group had been nearly hunted to extinction by the Empire, pursued with the same zeal normally reserved for the Jedi themselves - nevertheless, Jason accepted the invitation, and began training under his uncle, Ulen Tham, who was one of the handful of surviving Captains within the ranks of the organization. It soon became clear that Jason was well suited to the lifestyle, despite the hardships that had been present in the past as well as those presented by the Empire; naturally talented, Jason quickly progressed through the training at a rate that even took his vastly experienced mentor aback, beginning his weapon training at the age of thirteen rather than fifteen, receiving the blades that he currently uses from his parents. Life drastically changed for Jason around 4 months after his sixteenth birthday, however. The existance of the Ranger enclave on Toprawa was discovered by the Empire after nearly 2 decades of remaining hidden, and rather than take chances by engaging such a large and well trained force on the ground they decided to bombard the planet from orbit, destroying all major population centers along with most of the planet's technology. The vast majority of the Rangers were killed during the attack, with Jason and a small number of other members barely surviving, either through luck, skill or a combination of both. Forced back into another stone age, the few remaining members struggled to survive, many of them being forced to pay tribute to their Imperial conquerers in order to receive rations and supplies. Jason, however, was among the few that refused to simply lay down; rather, he swung to the opposite extreme, joining the handful of Rangers who continued to fight, raiding Imperial bases and installations for the supplies they needed or living off the ravaged land to survive. Jason apprenticed under another full fledged Ranger, finishing his training and earning the rank himself within another six months, also earning the right to act on his own as well as lead other Rangers into combat. Taking command of a small squad that had been newly formed from recruits like himself, Jason proved to be a master of guerilla warfare, somehow knowing exactly when and where to strike almost by instinct and able to evade every ambush or countermeasure the Imperials put in place through the same method, greatly frustrating the Imperial occupation forces over the course of the next two years. It didn't last forever, though - finished with trying to deal with them via conventional means, the occupation forces used their orbital forces to bombard the region that his team had been operating out of. A tried and true method, the bombardment did its job, killing everyone except him, although he did not escape unscathed. Wounded, alone and given up for dead after the Ranger's remaining command heard no word from his cell, Jason was forced to fend for himself, evading Imperial patrols for several weeks as his body healed. By this point Jason was disillusioned with the prospect of fighting back, at least on the soil of his occupied homeworld. They could easily fight the ground forces, and in most cases win, but no matter how often they won, they would always lack the capability to fight back against the ships in orbit, let alone kill them. Realizing that he'd be able to accomplish little beyond surviving where he was, Jason began thinking along different lines, his sole focus now shifted from fighting to escaping the world. With relatively little to go on and knowing that any attempt to hijack a vessel incapable of hyperspace or a high profile vehicle such as the ones the base commanders tended to use would be quickly met with death at the hands of the orbiting capitol ships, Jason instead set his sights on the monthly supply transports, low profile ships with minimal security. Using he same talents that had made him such an effective Ranger and guerilla fighter, Jason spent weeks preparing to infiltrate the local Imperial supply depot, making it into the facility and onboard the next supply ship to arrive. Keeping himself hidden after launch, an easy task due to the relative size of the vessel now that it was empty, Jason made his move as soon as it entered hyperspace, killing the security personell and locking the pilots and mechanics in their quarters. Using a mix of intimidation and bargaining to coerce the surviving civilian crew, Jason had the ship change course to Bothawui. Releasing the crew and ship upon landing, Jason fled into the population, doing several odd jobs to afford inexpensive passage (without too many questions) to Corellia, soon fleeing that world as well to keep ahead of any Imperial forces tracking him. role play sample: While shadows themselves were something that never quite attracted attention without apparent or specific cause under most circumstances, they were everywhere in the few small spaceports that were scattered the surface of Toprawa. It was that very fact that attracted the attention of the spaceport's security personnel one morning, long before the sun itself rose as stormtroopers, a group that usually kept to the background themselves, were suddenly there in force, moving through the complex with methodical purpose, clearing each and every corner of the facility in a grid pattern. It was what was outside, however, that slipped their attention as they relied on cameras and other machines to cover what they missed. As they scoured the inside of the buildings a single black wire, all but invisible in the predawn darkness unless you knew where to look, shot forward over a short fence near the northern side of the complex across the airfield, wrapping around the swivelling camera mulitple times in an instant before the snap hook carabiner caught onto the wire, stopping the camera's motion and holding it in place as a shadow seemed to act of its own accord, detaching from the hillside beyond the fence and moving with an almost supernatural speed as it crossed over the barrier with ease. Landing on the other side in a crouch and not stopping for even a fraction of a second, Jason twisted the cable, the wire falling loose from the mounted camera to zip back into place at his belt as he darted by beneath it, moving across the field to take refuge in the darkness under a parked ULAV. Taking comfort in the fact that his dark clothing and small black satchel would actually help keep him hidden in the early morning dimness, Jason sat in place for several long moments as he calmly watched the buildings across the airfield, noting the well organized grid search. He wouldn't be able to stay where he was for long, nor hide outside forever - it would only be a matter of time before they realized he hadn't made it inside of the structure yet, but then again that wasn't even his goal, although they had no way of knowing it. No, his objective was one of the small transports that would be landing soon, and that in itself was only a means to an end - he wanted off of that rock. The problem, though was that they'd already known he was coming, or at least suspected it if they hadn't been tipped off. In a way it worked to his advantage - they were likely expecting an attack of some sort, which meant that while security overall was much tighter than usual, he'd be relatively safe once he managed to get onboard a transport. Smiling a bit inside, his face remaining all but impassive, Jason felt around inside of the satchel with a free hand, pulling out a small block of explosives that his group had obtained from a supply convoy they'd hit a few weeks back, and one of the few things that was carryable when he'd left their ruined base of operations. The Imperials expected a spectacle, so he'd give them one. Setting the timer for roughly a half an hour after the transport landed and likely right after it was due to leave, Jason slapped it onto the underside of the ULAV he'd taken refuge beneath, discreetly placing it just behind the main fuselage and inside of the thrusters. Waiting until the camera behind him had swivelled back to face the hilltop he'd come from before darting over to the next vehicle in line and repeating the process. Within ten minutes he'd managed to rig the whole line of parked vehicles, and just as the stormtroopers began searching outside of the complex no less. Waiting again for a blind spot to open in the camera network, Jason used the few precious seconds to begin moving towards the outpost's hanger that was next to the building that served as the supply depot, his final intended destination. Slipping inside just as the stormies began sweeping the ULAV's he'd been at a few minutes ago, Jason hefted the satchel, somewhat disappointed at the lack of explosives left but knowing exactly what he'd do with them. While he no longer had enough to destroy the dozen or so ULAVs or the pair of TIE fighters towards the rear of the hanger, he didn't need to. Noting the light coming from the hanger's small control room, Jason edged along the far side of the building, using the comparitive brightness from inside of the room to help mask his own movement. Finally getting a good angle as he moved behind the TIE fighters, Jason caught a glimpse of the room's occupants - three techs and a stormtrooper. Easy enough. Darting up to the closed doorway with his back to the wall, Jason took a deep breath to steady himself as he pulled a canister from his belt and reached out to touch the door control, just in case it actually was unlocked, which to his pleasant surprise it was. Sloppy, but then who was he to complain? Holding his breath the moment the door began to open, Jason chucked the canister into the room, pulling the old fashioned pin-style release as he did so. While the techs simply looked on, only one of them noticing the gas grenade but still failing to react, the stormtrooper was quick enough to bring his rifle to bear just before the grenade filled the small room with a smoke based irritant within a fraction of a second, both causing the techs to fall over retching and gagging with tears in their eyes while blinding the stormtrooper with a gray fog. Darting into the room and still holding his breath, Jason ignored the irritation in his eyes as he used his memory to locate the trooper, reasonably sure as to where he was from the lack of movement from when he'd opened the door. The stormtrooper, expecting a classic breach maneuver from the gas grenade, still was aiming high with his rifle as Jason darted in low, shoving the rifle uprwards with his left hand as he deftly drew on of his pronged daggers with his right, flipping it around into a sword style grip and plunging it into the weak spot in between the base of the trooper's helmet and torso section. Still standing but by now beginning to attempt to struggle, the trooper had dropped his rifle and begun to draw his sidearm when Jason gave the blade a vicious, brutal twist, ending all movement from the trooper with as he pulled the blade loose, having produced virtually no sound within the two or three second confrontation until the dead man's armored bulk hit the floor. Picking up the blaster pistol, Jason walked over to the writhing techs, pressing the muzzel of the weapon to their heads to muffel the sound as he shot each one in the head once - while he had no actual training with such weapons there was virtually no way to screw it up from that close. His eyes and throat truely beginning to sting from the slowly disappating smoke now despite how used he was to it, Jason worked quickly, placing the last bits of explosives he had under the command consoles before leaving the room, closing the door behind him. All in all it'd turned out well - virtually no sound, at least none noticable from outside, and no one would know until their scheduled check in or until someone cleared the building. Exiting from a side entrance, Jason finally allowed himself a small smile as he saw one of the supply transports land - this was going to be a very good day indeed, and the first one he'd truely enjoy in years. | Any idea as to how to edit posts here? I can change the topic title, but not the actual post. It might just be that I'm more used to Proboards and can't find the actual link, but I've looked over the entire page several times. |

When you're logged in, there should be an edit link on the bottom left of the post. They're not too obvious I admit, probably should make some real buttons for them or something. If the link isn't there let me know and I'll have to check if there maybe is something else that got hung up with your account. |
