It was a strange truth that in this moment, Han Solo was bored. It was still quite some distance to the rendez-vous point where he hoped to strike a deal that got him some cargo and with it credits again. Smuggling business was not exactly low, but at present no 'regular customer' needed his services and new people were all so darn careful about who to hire. Han and Chewie might have been able to coast through a dry patch, but a ship like the Falcon needed upkeep, and that cost money. They dropped out of hyperspace in the wedge between a rapidly spinnign double star system and a black hole, the kind of place that forced all passing ships to return to realspace when passing with all the gravity around. It would take maybe an hour to pass the two systems, make some course corrections and then make the next jump, plain and simple space piloting, the kind where the busiest thing was the nav computer. It didn't turn out that way, though, because about two seconds after the drop out of hyperspace, the Falcon shook with blasterfire. Muttering the kind of curse one could only pick up in the deepest pits of the galaxy, Han yanked the ship into a reflexive evasive maneuver even before he had gotten a full view of the situation. Once he had, he cursed again. "Pirates! Do you think they’ll believe us when we let them know we’re still without cargo and just withdraw, Chewie? No, I don’t think so either." |
