Riot police called in again as Edmonton hockey celebration turns ugly

EDMONTON (CP) - Riot police had to be called upon again on Wednesday night as crowds celebrating an Edmonton Oilers victory turned ugly.

Simon Ostler, a reporter with a local radio station, said in an interview with The Canadian Press he witnessed several fights including one in which a man was so badly beaten 15 officers in riot gear and wielding shields had to clear a path so the man could be removed. "They have created a perimeter of sorts around where the person is lying on the ground," said Ostler. "They have created a complete containment zone around the individual . . . and he is getting treatment from police dressed in full riot gear."

The crowds finally started to disperse around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Edmonton fans are crazy thats all I can say! (WTF)
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we will change the world. All my very best,

Jack Layton
