I am 19 years old boy,for some reason,I have never been good at sports.I don't play ball games,I can't run fast,I can't swim well, and I simply don't like sports. Now,I am 195bls already while I am only 6 feet. And I begin to realize how important sports are. Not only for fitness and health, but also for happiness. I found many people get happy from sports! The problem is,I can't play basketball or something with others.Because I can't play at all, it's hard for me to start it. Can you recommend some kinds of sports that fit me? And how can I find someone play with me? Most of my friends playing basketball and football actually. Thank you very much! by the way,is cycling a good idea? it seems to be easier |

Hello Volcano nice to see you drop in! As for sports yes it's usually very good for your health but some people are just not meant for sports because of lack of some or many things like coordination or stamina for examples. You really don't seem like your overweight very much....if you find playing sports is difficult or you just don't like then there are less intense ways to get good exercise like cycling, jogging, hiking, join a fitness club or power gym, rowing, dancing etc and they can all be done with friends!

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we will change the world. All my very best, Jack Layton | |

*Only* six feet? Damn. How big do they get where you come from?
:) I'm a major klutz myself. I've got almost no athletic ability whatsoever. My sister throws a ball better than I do. I just didn't get the coordination genes for that stuff. I found out a fairly young age, though, that I'm a damn good snow skier. It's about the only athletic thing I can do without looking like a total idiot. If I was going to make a recommendation to someone as pathetically unathletic as myself, it would be to start with an individual sport. For me it was skiing; maybe for you it could be cycling, or weightlifting, or running -- something you can do by yourself at the beginning. That way, if it turns out you're embarrassingly bad at it, nobody has to know but you. If you can stick with it, you'll build up your strength and coordination, and that'll make you better at everything else. Or not -- I'm still as clumsy as I ever was, but I *love* taking my ski trips every winter, and it's fun to watch the looks on my friends' faces as I ski circles around them; even the ones a lot more generally athletic than I am. Don't force it -- try something, and if you like it, try it again. If not, keep looking. Eventually you'll find the right thing for you. |

I'm affraid of balls! (most people get the wrong impression from that statement) but i'm tried playing a few sports like rugby and football but I was mainly in it just to get hurt and try and hurt people but i'm a fast runner and if you do try something i'd recomend sticking to it because if you jump around your not going to do to much for yourself but i'm not that great at sports either so my word can't be the best out there, good luck anyways~! |

Thanks for advice! I am from China, most people here are shorter than me but slimmer. For my weight and race, I should be taller if my shape is normal. I am thinking of individual sports too. It seems to be easier to start but less competitive(competition can motivate my passion and energy) |

Indeed induvidual sports are easyer to start but harder to stay doing it. There is no one to stimulate you andno one to talk to. I loved running when i was younger and did it alone and with a group. Cycling is fun to, as a true dutchman i must say i write my bike almost every day to work and back (10 km to work and 10 km back again). Try to find the strength to do it and find perhaps a group of people that play sports but in not such a compatitive way but more for fun. Good luck with it. |

Just try going to a gym or gettin on a treadmill and runnin, or goin biking some time, i donno, i think you kinda have to have an interest to really get into a sport, and if you're not into any conventional athletics try something like kendo or martial arts... |

martial arts (wish I had) or maybe tennis or raquetball. They require a different type of athleticism. I used to love distance running, sorry I fell out of that too. |
