Man we got a massive freak snow storm in fact it's the worst snow storm to hit south Niagara & Buffalo for the month of October in 137 years. Buffalo, Fort Erie & Parts of Port Colborne are completely shut down with no power and destruction all around. Downed power lines, trees and structural damage due to massive weight of this heavy snow. Highways & roads are closed with a driving ban in effect and a state of emergency has been called. Flooding is going to be a huge problem now as well.

A powerful autumn storm has dumped up to 30 centimetres of snow on some regions of southwestern Ontario, and almost 60 centimetres on western New York and Buffalo, making it that city's worst storm in 137 years.

In Fort Erie and Welland, where the storm was at its fiercest on the Canadian side, residents were bracing for more lake-effect snow on Friday as weather analysts predicted the region could receive another 15 centimetres.

Environment Canada described the wintry blast as "significant snowfalls of historic proportions.''

The heavy snowfall and winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour caused tree branches to snap onto power lines, leading to power outages from Port Colborne to Fort Erie, Ont.

Friday's snowfall forced the closure of the Peace Bridge border crossing connecting Fort Erie and Buffalo. States of emergency were called in Fort Erie and Buffalo.

Something else to note that is very weird this snowstorm was accompanied with tons of thunder & lightening and very high winds. No one around here has ever seen anything like this before! *wowem

WoW it's amazing all the snow is gone here and things are looking like normal but if I drive 15 minutes south it's a mess and if I drive another 15 minutes to Fort Erie it's a complete disaster! We got off pretty lucky here in Welland but not so for other in the Niagara Region.
