And which is most dragon-ly or (un)dragon-ly? Also, does anyone have a licence plate frame or bumper sticker that says "My other ride is a dragon"? Edited by Night Fury, Jun 18 2014, 12:37 AM.

I drive a black Nissan Versan- so little, turns fast, goes where bigger cars can't go. It's kind of a low budget Night Fury-ish. Ideally my dragon would not be a car but an Icelandic horse or an Akhal Teke (they sure look like dragons turned into horses to me-- my avatar is an Akhal Teke) I wish I had such a bumper sticker on my car. I don't like putting bumper stickers on cars because the weather here destroys them. I do have an Iceland European oval sticker with the ÍS and the national coat of arms, and that does feature a black dragon and a limping giant with a big walking stick. So maybe the nation of Iceland was onto HTTYD 1,000 years before the movie came out. Do you have said "My other car..." bumper sticker on your ride? Edited by Fjord Mustang, Jun 18 2014, 09:42 AM.

That sounds like a practical car. I drive an Infiniti G35. It's a sporty sedan... fast and handles well. It doesn't look that dragony, though. Yeah, I've always thought having a horse would be neat... especially one as handsome as that. The cost of land around here makes it pretty impractical, though. That Iceland sticker looks wonderful. ![]() No, unfortunately I don't have a bumper sticker that says that. I love the idea of it, but I'm afraid it would make me seem like too much of a dweeb (which I obviously am, but I try not to let it show too much). ![]() |

Sounds like you have an awesomely dragon-y car if you have a sporty sedan! You can for sure move faster on the roads than my lil ole car can. As for horses, I often tell HTTYD fans longing for dragons to look into getting involved with horses. It's the closest I think we modern humans can get to being with a dragon. You have a creature who is larger than you and more than a bit dangerous, but one who has a great capacity to love deeply-- but you have to earn their trust and understand the way they communicate. Once you do and you stay true to them, they are amazingly true to you. They combine cat and dog aspects as well as their own unique power and courage. Some horse breeds like Icelandics, Arabians, Norwegian Fjordings (think the Frozen movie horses), Marwari horses and Akhal Tekes and mustangs and their cousins, mules, are very intelligent, too. When you win their friendship, they actually are great partners as well as friends. But never lowly servants. They will remind you from time to time when they disagree with you, but it is out of wanting to be a great partner, not out of rebellion. It seems, too, the more love you give a horse the more they give back, so brushing them, cleaning their saddles, petting them. They love all these things and let you know. And I am in the same wicket as you. I could not afford to keep a horse, but there are a lot of great riding stables where you can lease a horse and help be a part owner and ride it without the high expenses. Or you can take regular riding lessons in a good stable where you also learn to care for a horse. Then you wind up bonding with a particular horse through caring for him or her and getting a special friend. There are options to fit every budget and yet help to bond with a horse. Also I should add that I've noticed Hollywood culture has made the bond between horses and humans something only for girls and men would have no interest. I didn't grow up with that, so I have to say Hollywood is not true. I grew up in the U.S. rural Midwest and Great Plains among ranch country, as well as spending a lot of time in Iceland, which has a lot of ranches, too. All these places, both men and women are into horses and horseback riding and taming horses. And I personally admire people who put up the dweeb stickers. We have lots of them here and in Iceland, too. People have gotten more open about sharing dweeb interests. Sometimes it even breaks the ice. Most sci fi, animated and fantasy movie bumper stickers are very positive in nature, and people enjoy commenting with you about them. I am from Missouri, and when I lived there I shared a car with my brothers and sister when we were in college at the university in our hometown. We put a bumper sticker on it that said "Just visiting this planet." We would get notes stuck in our windshield that were funny and speculating about our home planet. It was silly and fun and people from all backgrounds seemed to enjoy supporting and commenting on our silly message. I can't think of any negative messages, but then again it would have taken trolls too much time to find paper and pen to stick a nasty message on our car windshield. Trolls don't like to put in much effort. So it was mostly positive, I encourage you to celebrate your support of dragons whether as a bumper sticker or a patch on a jacket or computer cover or paper notebook cover. Or even a coffee mug statement. It's a positive message overall, and you might find you have many invisible supporters who like your message. People like dragons. Well, Fjord, I think I just figured out why your profile picture is a horse.

Well, as a student a bicycle is all I need It's not just for mere simplicity and affordability though, I also go into the mountains for some cycling in my free time. It's a nice hobby to have here in Switzerland. And it's environmentally friendly of course! Not very dragon-like though My favorite kind of transportation is a snowboard, though. Not sure if that's any dragony...it definitely is an endless source of joy and thrills though. So, when comparing the feeling of it it does relate a little. @Fjord Mustang I really enjoyed your post about how horses relate to dragons. Very insightful. I only did horse riding once in my life, unfortunately. |

@Fjord That's a really interesting idea. I have ridden a horse once before (on a school trip) and it was a cool experience. It felt weird to put your trust so fully in another creature's hands, and the horse could probably sense that I didn't fully trust him/her, but luckily they put up with me anyway. I did grow up in a pretty rural area and some of my neighbours had horses. I enjoyed petting and feeding them, but I never got to ride them. I once took a temporary job cleaning the stables at the local race track. I thought maybe I'd get to see the horses, but unfortunately they'd been moved somewhere else. The job was super hard work and the hay really bothered my allergies, so I never went back after that. That's a really cute story about the bumper sticker. It's nice to know there are so many cool people around. @Erazer: Cycling is great fun and very healthy, of course. I went through several bicycles and put 1000's of kilometers on them. My parents always told me I could have my own car when I was able to pay for it myself, so I didn't get one until I was 19, even though I had my license sooner. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBZvt2yIObw 'Scuse you, Erazer. Snowboarding is a very dragon-esque way to get around. Just ask Hiccup! These were featurettes from the 2010 Winter Olympics. |

Woah, I don't think I've seen this yet! I guess Hiccup and me have more in common than I thought Funny though, how unfitting this commercial now seems for the movie. No wonder some of us thought it would just be another Dreamworks comedy film! |

For all those folks who made comments about horseback riding and dragons, thank you. Night Fury- sounds like you had a tough job with the stable cleaning. That's hard to do all the nasty work and not get to enjoy being around the horses. I hope you get the chance to meet a great horse some day, one who is like Toothless, to make up for the tough times you had, As for horses and dragons, I did notice on the horse fan site "Horse Nation" that their movie critic who reviews horse movies did give a Toothless shout out. She ran a post about the best horse movies that did not have horses. Her number one movie in that category was How to Train Your Dragon because the bond between Hiccup and Toothless was the perfect example of the best of the human meets horse and becomes a great bond trope you see in horse movies. I like her explanations about the bond between Hiccup and Toothless. Edited by Fjord Mustang, Jun 21 2014, 11:52 PM.
