Yes, I know it's Pixar and not DreamWorks, but I watch the trailer and it just feels the sort of thing Httyd fans would like. Plus they share a voice actor. Brave |

I am looking forward to this movie and have been even before HTTYD got released. It's a very different style for Pixar to have historical fantasy. I think the Celtic/Northern Europeans themes and Craig Ferguson's voicework will attract HTTYD viewers. Patrick Doyle is scoring the music. I like his works a lot, but he especially does Celtic very well. That should appeal to HTTYD fans, too. I actually like both Dreamworks and Pixar. The latter always keeps trying very new things and taking risks. With Brave they are, for the first time in their animation, creating a female main character and one who is not a Disney princess type-- I think romance won't be a big part of this movie, so it will be adventure. Up to now, most animated "non princess" adventure movies have been aimed at boys and feature the main lead as a male. Mulan and Monsters vs. Aliens are among the exceptions. It should be very interesting. The animation is gorgeous as well. Edited by Fjord Mustang, Nov 24 2011, 12:20 PM.

I really like the Art Design of Brave(maybe because it has some similarities to HTTYD). However, the humour in the trailer irritated me a bit but I know that one shouldn't judge a movie by its trailer(especially animated movies).
Movies from Studio Ghibli often have female leads (Arrietty, Spirited Away, Nausicaä) but I guess you have already seen them. |

you´re right! I forgot about the Ghibli movies. I was thinking more about the Western studios (Dreamworks, Pixar, Fox, Warner Brothers, Nelvana) since they get so much of the attention from the public. I really admire Ghibli's movies, and I am happy they are now getting more coverage in the USA. You still have to travel pretty far to find theatres showing his films, alas. Miyazakís animation is superb (a great argument for continuing with hand drawn), the stories very original, and his tendency to have female leads who are bold and adventerous is wonderful. I have seen the movies you mentioned except for Arriety, which comes to the USA in February. I enjoyed reading "The Borrowers", so it will be neat to see Ghibli´s interpretation of it. I agree about the humor-- we see that very often in animated trailers. Films like HTTYD, Megamind and Happy Feet amped up the humor when the stories were actually pretty deep and often darker in tone with the focus on adventure over slapstick humor. There was a teaser trailer for Brave that did seem to indicate the mystery and adventure, so I am hoping the movie will keep in that vein. |

In my experience trailers are built to draw in a certain audience. Chances are the annoying humor in the trailer is the full amount of that type. |

Oh, but I do love Pixar. It seems princesses in all story forms are forced into different stereotypes. I like the idea of a princess, in a dress, doing her thing. We haven't seen that one for awhile. |

I'm really looking forward to this movie! ![]() Ever since I saw the trailer I've been excited for it. I also love that the main character's a ginger xD To me, it seems more common for the leads in animated movies to have either blonde or brown hair
