The thing is, AZ, while there are a lot of misunderstandings and falsehoods out there about the healthcare mandate that should be cleared up, you are still going to have a lot of people who disagree with the system because it goes against their personal ethics. And personal ethics are a hard thing to make another person change.

Hi Az,
The video is not about health care or Obamacare (you know that).
The video only shows what socialism is all about. You know, that system where all is FAIR?

Let me ask this what do you think of the following statement?
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need

Also, from the Wikipedia article:
The origin of this phrasing has also been attributed to the French utopian Morelly,[5] who proposed in his 1755 Code of Nature "Sacred and Fundamental Laws that would tear out the roots of vice and of all the evils of a society" including

I. Nothing in society will belong to anyone, either as a personal possession or as capital goods, except the things for which the person has immediate use, for either his needs, his pleasures, or his daily work.
II. Every citizen will be a public man, sustained by, supported by, and occupied at the public expense.
III. Every citizen will make his particular contribution to the activities of the community according to his capacity, his talent and his age; it is on this basis that his duties will be determined, in conformity with the distributive laws.[6]

So how is taking everything that I have and giving it to someone who decides for me a good thing?

EWO

It's not! That's why thankfully America does not tax 100% of your income. Nor did I say anywhere that I support complete socialism. So, I'm not sure why you're convincing me of the evils of something I know is evil. ;3

Also, you're like the only one that doesn't capitalize it.

The thing is, when the government meddles, the only thing it helps is the spread of corruption.
And the private sector is immune to corruption? Ever heard of Enron?

The government offered to buy off failed loans in order to "help" the less fortunate. What happened? The bought-off companies sold mortgages en masse to people who were not able to afford them, on terms that would ensure their failure.
That's an oversimplification. There were a myriad of factors at play in the housing collapse. In fact, mortgage securitization (when a mortgage company bundles loans into securities and and sells them to investors) was as every bit as much at fault as any government program. For a quick overview, the Wikipedia article presents both conservative and liberal positions on the housing crisis. For a more in depth look at the role of securitization, I recommend reading this paper: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1924831

Forced abortions and euthanasia take place in places we consider "modern", such as the UK.
Do you have a source for that claim? The only country I know of that practices forced abortions is North Korea. Some have also occurred in China, though it's not official policy. As for euthanasia, it's a criminal offence in the UK.

But we could change the regulations to punish the lawsuit get-rich-quick schemes and keep the medical procedures in check. If doctors don't feel they have to do mountains of preventative care for simple illnesses or injuries for fear of being shut down by a leech with a lawyer, maybe things will get a little easier.
I definitely agree with this, though I'm not sure how serious of a problem lawsuits are in the grand scheme. I do believe it's important that people have recourse for serious malpractice, but some responsibility must also fall on the patient. People shouldn't take everything their doctor says as the gospel -- they should be encouraged to seek out second opinions rather than putting their complete faith in one doctor, then suing the instant something goes wrong.

This is going to seem like nitpicking, but the human concept of private property is inflated beyond any reasonable necessity. Humans, as other animals, acquire the resources and possessions needed to ensure their survival. All other definitions and uses for property exist as arbitrary constructs.

Also, to those who are pro-small government and anti regulation: Libor. As Night Fury said, private sector has not exactly been faultless.

Why do people capitalize AZ? :P
Simple: Motivation.

There's nothing right or wrong with making money. It's just what people do to live and survive and entertain themselves. And in the case of capitalization, it allows a large group of people to do so. But if people know that they'll get taken care of just as much for sitting around, what do you think they'll do? Sit around. This is why socialism, in all its forms, is worthless. It causes people to merely exist, and stop living their own lives. Happens all the time in Europe. Frankly, I don't wanna sit in a tiny apartment all day sipping wine. I got better things to do, and I'm proud that I earned the stuff I have.

It's also important to recognize that money != wealth. More things can always be made. The more stuff is out there, the more the value of money goes up. The opposite is also true: The more money is out there, the more things cost.

Night Fury, the Private Sector is NOT immune, BECAUSE of the government. Think of what Enron was. A utility company with a government-ensured monopoly over an area. This is the problem.

People forget that the reason we had the "robber baron" monopolists of the early 20th century was because this sort of crud was condoned by the government. Now we're just going through the same crap again, but with leafy green stickers and commercials full of poor people to make people feel good about putting up with it.

Competition is the natural regulator of business. When the government starts showing favoritism, when the poliitcians are bought off, when supposed civil servants are purposely marking down and shutting down businesses that don't conform to their beliefs (yes, this does happen), this is corruption. Any government regulation MUST be neutral, and the way things are going, it won't be!
