But in the case of a corrupted private business, I don't have to have anything to do with them.

Hi Az,

Azdgari

Also, you're like the only one that doesn't capitalize it.

Well if you're talking about your handle, it's because I have respect for people. Their handles and avatars are a representation of who they are.

That's part of the reason I try not to get personal in this debate.

It's not! That's why thankfully America does not tax 100% of your income. Nor did I say anywhere that I support complete socialism. So, I'm not sure why you're convincing me of the evils of something I know is evil. ;3

Okay, good we have some common ground here to work on! (Wipes forehead.) Now the next question I have is how much of my income should I contribute? As I explained before 15% of my paycheck each week goes to Social Security, take an additional 20% for federal taxes and 10% for state taxes right now adds up to 45% of taxes from my paycheck. I make a decent salary and sock away 15% for my retirement. Oh and I also pay 5% of my paycheck for my own personal insurance (health, vision, dental, critical care). So that's 65% gone before looking at bills and mortgage.

I'm not a one percenter but the figure I hear quoted is an additional 15 to 20 percent of my paycheck. So that's 80 to 85 percent. Now do you see why I am fighting this the way I am, because someone likes an idea and is willing to subjugate themselves.

This link is a list of the 20 taxes already implemented to support the onset of Obamacare.

And as I mentioned before Az, governments and people can exact retribution on businesses that break the law. That is why that companies like Enron no longer exists. But the point that needs to be considered is the amount of lobbying done on behalf of companies within the halls of government. Solyndra and Fisker are also good examples as well but more blatant.

But as in all cases, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Could I get a source on that? Not to be overly personal, but unless you're making 250K+ I don't believe there is tax increase for you written into the bill, which I spent some time studying today.

I do like the greeting in each of your posts, by the way. It's very respectful. :)

I would like to see more information on the taxation. That's always been a bit fuzzy for me.

There is no right answer regarding taxation.

I could play devil's advocate and ask "why should I pay any tax at all?" but I think I'll retire from this thread and let the Americans duke it out, since they're the ones with a stake in the outcome.

Mmm, I feel like I don't have much more to offer this thread as well.

Are you even old enough to vote? No, really, I think anyone is capable of political discussion as long as they something about it whether they can officially do something or not.

It seems the thread fell into more of a political theory debate anyway...

Hi Az,

Congratulations on your participation in democracy by voting. It is empowering. Also consider volunteering for the candidate who you believe in. I've already signed up to volunteer for the candidate of my choice.

This is an answer I received when I asked a question of a fellow tourist who was a Canadian regarding how much tax do they pay for health care. She answered straight away forty percent. Now that was a figure that took me completely by surprise. So the fact that all of the prognosticators have projected that Obamacare is not going to increase the taxes on those that make less than $250,000 I would see in polite company, horse feathers. Over the last forty years I've witnessed both Republicans and Democrats make predictions about how much a program would save money if it were approved. I've yet to see one and I expect Obamacare to be the same way. So I'm guessing that initial tax increases will be in the five to ten percent range. But I admit that's a guess. You also have to consider the other taxes and reporting that is mentioned at the website above. Most notable is the 28 percent increase in taxes on dividends from 15% to 43.4%. Retired people have to live off stock dividends in order to have a somewhat comfortable retirement.

What I wanted to point out is if you think Marxism is evil and don't want to take 100% of my funds, after showing to you how much of MY paycheck currently goes to other people, I was curious in finding out how much more of my paycheck you want.

You have to remember the slogan, that someone like Robin Hood robs from Peter to pay Paul, but Paul endorses it. Think about that whenever you want a free program. Two slogans come to mind:

  • There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Robert Heinlein.
  • If you think healthcare is expensive now wait until it's FREE. P.J. O'Rourke.

But I digress. You want to drink the kool-aid and say how wonderful Obamacare is. Fine. You will have to live with the consequences of the world that you create.

Good luck.

EWO
