The book series by Dugald A. Steer, creator of the "Ology" franchise (Dragonology, Wizardology, Egyptology, etc) will be turned into a film.
http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Trek-Kurtzman-Orci-Bring-Dragonology-Big-Screen-32676.html I have not read the books, but hope the plot does not share too many similarities to the script of HTTYD 2 & 3. And I can't help but wonder if the popularity of HTTYD is partially responsible for this decision. Films with dragons as their focal point have seen mixed success over the last 30 years. Dragonheart was modestly successful, but Reign of Fire and Eragon were financial failures. Here is a chart from Box Office Mojo: http://boxofficemojo.com/genres/chart/?id=dragon.htm One thing seems certain: dragons have never been more popular than they are today. In addition to HTTYD and Dragonology, other book franchises slated to receive film treatments include Pern and Temeraire. If all of these projects receive the green light, we could see as many dragon films released between 2010 and 2020 as were released in the previous 30 years. The question remains whether HTTYD was an exception to the rule, or is there enough demand for dragons to support all of these franchises. Edited by Night Fury, Aug 29 2012, 12:48 PM.
