Huh, Pixar's film 'bout a Happy lil' Dino comes out the month before? I hope there's enough of a time gap there so that it doesn't compete with HTTYD2. Maybe it would actually be better if they delayed it a year or so (but then again, after awhile, you start to lose the audience that was attached to and remembers the original). Maybe just delay it until a bit later in the summer, or even try and put it in the winter/holiday-crowd slot. Admittedly, they did that with "Rise of the Guardians", but I think alot of RotG's problems had to do with the abysmally small advertising campaign. |

Also, you've take into account that HTTYD was nominated for 2 Acamedy Awards, they can't possibly delay the sequel to such a succes, especially when it grossed almost $500 million dollars. Hopefully it won't be delayed. |

Good news! It seems Dreamworks is on the rebound and in the black! Dreamworks makes money even without movies |

Hmm, good news indeed, but after reading that article and "Behind DreamWorks Animation Layoffs: Costs Are Out of Control," I'm really curious and concerned as to whether DreamWorks has instituted serious cost-cutting measures to the sequel. That's one movie I really don't want to see obvious reductions in production value, such as in animation quality. On that note, I'm really curious to know what production budget they set for the sequel. The first one was given $165 million which is definitely up there for an animated film. I would hate to see a 20%+ reduction in that because something tells me I'm gonna be able to tell. |

Well, given what we've seen of the previews so far, and from the nearly half-a-billion that they've made so far off the Croods, I'd say that they're pretty vested in HTTYD (it was one of their biggest and highest-grossing films). Still, time will tell. |

I have to wonder how much of HTTYD's production budget was due to the substantial revisions the film went through. There is also a lot of research that goes into the environments and such. Normally a sequel will have a slightly lower production cost because much of the groundwork is already laid, and the character models and concept art can be re-used with minimal changes. That said, HTTYD2 sounds like a much more ambitious film, so they probably couldn't afford to lower the budget very much. I'm also kind of hoping the bigger storyline will mean a longer runtime, because I actually found the first film a bit too brisk. If a film like "Cars" can be 116 minutes long, then the epic-ness of HTTYD easily deserves that. But it seems like 100 minutes is a huge barrier for DreamWorks, because pretty much all of their films clock in at between 86 and 98 minutes. Edited by Night Fury, May 1 2013, 01:40 AM.
