I guess I don't think people are "stupid", more like unaware. It takes a certain mind-set to stop and see the house of cards around us and most people have no reason to stop what they are doing until it stops them. |

Well, humans are supposed to be the smartest creatures on Earth, but to watch them at a 4-way stop makes you wonder. Even cows know to take turns going into the barn at milking time. I agree with Grizzly, if people can't figure out how to navigate when a traffic light is replaced by a temporary 4-way stop sign, they'll be absolutely clueless if there are no traffic lights telling them what to do next and those are the people that will cause massive pile-ups and traffic jams. Maybe "stupid" isn't the most politically correct choice of words, but its an apt descriptor in this scenario. Everyone panics, but intelligent people are able to channel panic into proactive measures to help themselves. HF, you are right that most people don't see the "house of cards" and are quite shocked when it folds around them. |

HF, you must be a kind hearted person...I think that people are generally stupid, self centered and selfish. PS...Griz thought that I should clarify some. I had a not so good night at work and it taints my view of the human race some, sorry That being said I really believe that the cards have been laid out in front of us for some time and if people haven't put 2 and 2 together by now, well, lets just say that the stupid ones are weeded out first. I think that far to many people know what is coming, or at least have a general idea, but still believe that with little or no work on their part, the government (the taxpayer) will come to their rescue. They will either do it by their own means or they will vote for those that will require it. Edited by Raven, Aug 31 2011, 12:11 AM.

I stand corrected, people ARE (as Griz said) Stupid, generally speaking. I just spent my weekend defending myself from some verbal assaults from (what was) a high school friend. I had sent her some emails about my peak oil position and that the market dive in 08 was nothing compared to what we will soon be seeing. My argument was that they have not addressed a single issue that brought the market down in 08, they only wallpapered over with printed money and it has no value. She accused me of trying to scare people and began her rant to "shoot the messenger" and on. She literally said she didn't want to hear such doom n gloom, nor did she think she needed to be prepared for anything, including peak oil! . .further saying gas prices don't affect her (she doesn't garden, she doesn't bike and she likes to vacation in India, Hawaii). She couldn't even mention 1 thing that is improving in our economy or an different mode of transportation if she needed it -saying she would take a bus if she needed. Griz is most likely very right! |

Wow, HF - sounds like your "friend" fits the 'you can lead a horse to water' adage. Sadly, there are more of that mindset than there are of people that understand the situation and have been making preparations. I guess all we can do is look forward to the day when the morons are weeded out by either natural causes or otherwise - it boils down to the same - they will not survive a change to the white-bread middle American life style they now enjoy. |

ROTFLMAO HF good one!! I will have to remember that. I am sad about the ignorance of your friend. There are people like that in my family but I don't talk to them much. |
