According to my Mother in law, who is such a great cook that she could make a shoe taste like a gormet treat, the breads that they made in the older days were a more dense bread. She said that a piece of bread alot of times would do for an entire lunch if that was all they had so a dense loaf was more filling. Maybe going back to the old ways and the DIY stuff will take us back to the way food used to taste as well. It just might take some getting used to.

That is probably true. I will say the bread had a good flavor and a nice thick crust - so I would deem it a success. However, the Wonderbread generation would probably deem it unfit for human consumption! :) Oh well, more for me!!! Lots of homemade butter and raspberry jelly - now that's truly a slice of heaven!!
