We've grown tobacco for a few years but the first year, we hung to dry it in the barn and the goats tore it from the ceiling...could that be why they act so goofy?

The soil needs to be warm and dry for germination. It doesn't need much in fertilizer and I plant among cold crops once the weather warms and it confuses the yellow butterflies that seem to like to eat my cabbages to shreds.

So I'm growing more this year and hoping to dry it where no animals can get to it.

Tobacco and a few other goodies can be used in bartering if it comes to that.

If you have a greenhouse and it stays warm enough - get some coffee seeds from me! I'm also looking for tropical fruit seeds for my seed bank. . . yes - I'm asking you to save seeds from any fruit you eat.
You can lead an ass to knowledge, but you can not make it think.

I might have to take you up on that HandFarming. I will certainly save seeds for you. Are you looking for any tropical fruits or fruit in general?

Oh... coffee! That would be the thing I would miss the most - probably one of the few things I would consider resorting to violence to get!! LOL Handfarming, do you have any info on the specifics of raising it? I know it grow in cool mountain areas of S. America, but that's about all I know. For example, how many plants would it take to get enough coffee to bother with, etc.? Thanks for any info you can provide. As for tropical fruit seeds, are the seeds we get in grocery store fruits viable? Don't they irradiate the fruit or something before they can bring into the US?
