Been reading various info that the price of ammo is going up after May 1st. Don't know why but probably like everything else. I read that online sales are banned in California already so it will just be a matter of time when they start banning every where else. I usually do a cash in person deal but thought I'd pass it along. There also has been talk about buying up extra ammo for barter but most advise against it. Your bartered ammo could be used against you unless you know the person your dealing with. If things go bad, the more usefull items for barter would be water and food. They would be in most demand. We keep the barter thing in mind but worry more about just having our own supplies and enough to go around for who may show up.

I think that's a wise policy - while it would be great to have "barterable" stuff, its probably more important that you have what you need to get by. As for the price of ammo going up; as some wise person once pointed out, if they make ammo hard enough to come by, the problem of taking away a person's right to bear arms will take care of itself.

Griz, have you heard any more on the May 1st thing?

Not a single word of May 1st ammo prices. I'm sure they'll just pass it off on high fuel prices or something. Did pick up some 12ga buckshot at fleet farm today. It's on sale for $2.99 Wolf brand but who cares, it's going to storage. I think that's the cheapest I've seen that stuff.

Just did some checking on ammo prices and the word is, Yes it will jump 10-20% and expect shortages again due to foreign demand buying up our metal and driving up prices. The word is, get it while you can. Oh great, here we go again. Last time this happened I seen someone at Fleet farm put his shopping cart against the ammo shelf and swipe his arm across, scooping all boxes into his cart!

So far, so good, no change on ammo prices. In fact scrap metal prices are comming down around here. How ever aluminum cans are getting up there. Last week I finally took in my many years stash and they were .70 cents a pound. I read something about saving older pennies instead of nickels cause of the price of copper. Don't think I'm going to get that carried away. If I'd save anything it would be lead for melting down but even that is going up in scrap price. Wheel wieghts are .20 cents lb. When I dropped of my cans there was a five gallon bucket full sitting in front of the door. I'm wondering how they lifted it out of their car? Old car batteries are really going up, $10-15 a piece. There is money in junk.

Doesn't mean much. As we know and have repeatedly experianced, that can all change overnight. Any excuse to run out and add to the ammo stores is worth doing. The one thing we know, other than .50 a box here and there, ammo won't be getting any cheaper.

The earlier talk of rising ammo prices must have fizzled out. Nothing has changed much at all and the shelves are really stocked once again. Reloading supplies are in stock again and allthough they have gone up a little in price but nothing unbearable. I talked to one dealer that said there never was a shortage, it was all the panic and hoarding that caused the lack of supplies. I still keep an eye on the stuff and pick some up now and then but have a fair supply so I'm leaning more on food items. Food tastes better than bullets.

LOL - true, that Grizzly! I often think that people who envision a scenario of defending their property with bullets flying are focusing on the wrong thing. IMO, that will be the exception and not the rule. For one thing, in a SHTF situ, mobility, or a lack of it, is going to be a key factor. True, there may be the occasional altercation where someone accidently discovers your farm, but an all out assault or resistance of an unknown entity is not real likely, IMO, for most preppers. Plus, good OPSEC can really cut down on the possibility of people showing up thinking you've got "Stuff". And, with planning, even in that situation, you can minimize your loss by not having everything out in the open - caches of supplies may make the difference of surviving in a situation like that. I think you guys already figured that one out long ago, though! :) I truly admire what you and Raven have accomplished and think if a person wanted a model for prepping, they should talk to you guys. Of course, due to strict OPSEC, its understood that you're just an ordinary family with nothing in your mind but the immediate amusement of having a "hobby farm". :) I know Raven would throttle me if she ever heard me refer to what you guys WORK at as a "hobby"!! ROFLMAO

Well, the word "hobby" applies...it isn't making us money (yet :-/ )
