There are some very good informative You Tube videos on dehydrating eggs and veggies, canning meats, soups and stews and butter and other good homesteading type topics. Homestead Acres has some of the best that I have seen and they are using what they make so it is easier to believe than those that just show that they know how to do something. I also found some perfect videos on making chicken tractors that could easily hold rabbits so start bracing yourself for poor Grizzly to start groaning. LOL |

LOL Aw c'mon - he loves it and he knows it!! But, actually, You Tube is a great source for info. My grandson goes on there every time he gets a new Transformer toy so he can figure out how to make it transform. Hard to believe grown men make videos of themselves playing with kid's toys, but they do!! I'll have to check out Homestead Acres, I've never heard of that before; is that a You Tube site? |

I took a quick tour of the website and agree, they had some cool stuff. I'm a recipe freak, so was happy to see they had an abundance of recipes! |

I used the info on one of the You tube videos to dehydrate some eggs. There are several different ways shown and I used the one where you put a little bit of milk in the eggs and scrambled them as usual. There is another one that says to just scramble them with nothing added to use in baking. That one I will try next. I will let you know how it works. Don't tell Griz, he is going to be my unsuspecting victim tomorrow morning at breakfast. I'll let you know what they taste like. |

ROFLMAO Well, I'll go along with "victim" - not so sure about the "unsuspecting" part! I think he figured out a long time ago that sometimes NOT knowing is just better all around!! Too funny!! But, seriously, let us know how the eggs turn out. How did you do it - just stir 'em together and ....?? |

Alright, here is my report...NASTY!!!! I am going to look at the video again to see if it was something that I did wrong. I had scrambled them without anything greasy in the pan (no PAM, butter, lard etc). I used a touch of milk when scrambling them though, maybe that was a mistake. I dehydrated them at the 145-155 degree setting on our Excalibur dehydrator. I left them for more than the overnight so maybe that was the problem. The result, I left the egg in a bowl in the refrigerator at a mixture of 1 part egg to 2 parts water. I left it overnight and in the morning the egg was still hard. I tried to simmer the egg/water mixture on the stove but even that didn't help. I am going to spend the day trying to use a fresh mixture in the crock pot. I am also going to try to make another batch with no milk and drying at the stated time of 6-8 hours. Keeping you posted. PS Griz thought that I should run him to the emergency room :-) the big baby LOL Edited by Raven, May 14 2011, 12:08 AM.

LOL Sounds like a little more "research" is in order - brace yourself, Griz!! Seriously, though, did you have to put them in a blender or something to get them in a powdered state? I guess I have no clue as to anything about that process! |

The video that I saw was one that left the scrambled eggs "chunky". If you want to make the eggs for baking they said to put them in a food processor. I didn't get the time to try again today but I will try again next week. Stay tuned PS Griz has added Tums to our "priority" list. LOL |
