How about put everything in an airtight bucket and pile manure on to cover! |

Now that I quit laughing... I'll bet you won't have anyone snooping through it. Actually I've heard similar stories of people hidding valuables in outhouse holes from the natzis. Mommacat's idea of a false wall would even work good in a basement or root cellar just to hide more food items in case of a raid or theives. You won't be left with nothing. |

Yeah - you'd have to be pretty desperate to dig through a manure pile for food...and too dirty to eat it when you found it. However, telling people "its in there if you dig through it" could get your manure pile spread in a pinch.

Awwww...why tell em...give clues and then let them search for the prize...adding guard snakes and assorted creepys would only add to the entertainment value

This situation happened to me. I befriended a group of preppers only to find out there was a fake prepper right in their middle of them. Now this guy knows I have food stored. He talked a great game about prepping and knew everything about it. When I spent more time with him and his family I notice he more guns and ammo than you could count but didnt have any food. Not one extra can, not enough to make one meal for his extra large family. Then I found out he makes part of his living off of taking advantage of church groups. So I learned this lesson the hard way. Thats why I have been off the web and not working with anybody. I dont know if its right for me to warn other people but be carefull out there. |

Thanks for the reminder, bender. OPSEC is one thing I believe people don't pay enough attention to. And, I get just livid po'd when someone I've trusted "outs" me as a prepper. I am sure they do it because they assume I'd be happy about finding other preppers, but that is not the case. It makes for some uncomfortable moments, but I usually say something along the lines of 'oh, I came to my senses and gave that silly idea up, now I'm focused on winning the lottery.' |

Well I try not to hide it as we try to encourage others to join in the local growing of food. Our farm sponsors a contest every year at the county fai for "The Most Edible Landscape" and get some appreciative letters from the entree people as they want to see n know more of that sort of encouragement toward thier own goals. We also support the local food markets where we can. Over the years, it seems the interest has grown more than from just our own efforts as people seem to be "getting it" more or less, more and more. And we have joined forces with others along the way, (and some are more "prepping" than us). And it's good to know like minded people as well as be able to share info. |

I've also noticed that more and more people are finally starting to prepare for bad times. Some are only interested in small amounts and a little extra here and there and others are going whole hog on food storage, etc., etc. Maybe there is some hope for many after all. Of coarse there are still the thousands or millions that can't wipe there own butt without help or guidance and there will always be that group where ever you go. |

I think you're right, Grizzly. At the very least people don't just laugh out loud if they find out someone is a prepper and, more and more, people seem to be trying to hedge their bets a little by stocking up on some essentials. But, I don't think there are enough smart people to compensate for the FEMA dependants and those who believe their gov't owes it to them to take care of them! |
