Raven asked about a canning party and I can setup a box wood burner to cook on and have the big food dryer ready if people want to dry food. Ask Raven about a schedule as I work from home most days.

I have bags for dried food and Raven and others may have all food preservation stuff needed. Bring your food to out up and byob.

I'm not as proficient as most are at food preservation so be patient with me please.

Times like these I wish I lived closer to the Iowa border! I think having several people at work on the same project is the ideal way to get things done quickly and with a lot less individual effort. Its a great learning experience, too, as a person can pick up hints and tricks from those that have been doing it for years. Not to mention that fact that its just a whole lot more fun!

Yeah - a LOT of place have been for sale around here for over a year and are pretty cheap. Of course, if you are looking for a job - I have a part time opening for farm hand/intern.

It would actually be lots easier prepping in your area, I think. For one thing, years of the land being farmed might make it a little easier to start gardens, etc. Here, its acres and acres of swamp, dense woods, and nothing but sand! But, the job thing would be a real deal breaker. But, its nice to know I'd be welcome into the neighborhood! :)

The farm we got was wild as it had been abandoned by the owner and left to go. It's been 4 years of getting the farmhouse livable, fighting the over growth to put in gardens and tearing out old fencing for something that could work.

Bikers lived in our house until we bought it 21 years ago. I had the barn re-roofed a few years ago but it still needs to be either painted or if I get my way, oiled to keep the old look. It also needs foundation work. We finally got the kitchen done last year. Now I am focusing on the farm. I need to make 4000ft of wire work like double that. Today I went out to measure where the fencing will go (the bugs are AWFUL) and I am sure that I am needing a transfusion at this point. It is a slow process and I am sure that we will get done about 10 minutes before I am pronounced dead.
