http://endtimesreport.com/cleaning_engine_oil.html Here is a great article on reclaiming used motor oil. The time to save resources is now. We have entered the time of make do, use it up or do without. We have used old motor oil to "paint" our hay wagons, clean your garden tools with it etc. I am sure that there are alot of other things that you can use it for, but cleaning it and being able to re-use it when there is no easy way to replenish your supply would be a great asset. This would be a slow process for sure, but if you made it an ongoing process you would be ahead of the game. |

I saw a guy on tv who used toilet paper in his oil filter on his car saying that the oil never got old- he only needed to replace the roll of toilet paper. This article lost me when he started sealing metal in seal-a-meal vacuum bags and burying it. The last part of the article - restoring old batteries- we use a de-sulfator connected to batteries. Removing the sulfur keeps lead acid batteries in near new condition and usable for about 10 times the usual life.... see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desulfation |

Good idea. Add a nice hazmat suit to the list for those really nasty jobs! I prefer the blazing orange ones cause they go with my rubber boots =)) |

I think he was giving instructions for the safe and secure storage of arms and munitions, HF - he just didn't want to come right out and say that!

HF, your blaze orange suit could double as a deer hunting suit! Do you hunt over there? BTW, I went to a garage sale and found a pair of rubber boots for $10! They are normally $50+. I don' think that she ever wore these as the inside still have writing in them that was brand new looking. I try to check Salvation Army, Savers and Goodwill...they have alot of good outside clothing and very good prices. |

Used to hunt when I was a kid. Once we hit second grade us kids were used to shag the deer out. The uncles had us walk through briers and yell to chase deer to them on stand....the word was to yell and drop to the ground if we heard a deer crashing out of the deep woods. By 16 we were expected to carry. This all came in very handy in the army but I lost my taste for guns after learning to trap shoot. Fleetfarm had good prices on barn and rain boots. I have the summer ones which fit with a pair of socks and the winter ones for heat pockets and a couple layers of socks. Ya can't have enough good barn boots! Never know when your going to step in it. I guess since I lime the barn frequently I don't really need the gas mask for the barn, but it certainly would complete the outfit. =)) Do you guys hunt your land? |

No we don't hunt cause we already have enough in the freezer but the woods starts at the edge of our lawn so we don't have far to go. curious about your battery desufater thing. Do you have the boughten device or come up with your own? Totaly I have about a dozen battery operated euipment so anything that keeps them going longer would help. If I buy new ones I stick to high quality interstate batteries. They are around $100. but well worth it. Some times I get used ones from the scrap yard for $20. but it can be a gamble and they are going up in price now too. |

Hi Griz- the one we have was ordered online, they are all the same thing- they send off a frequency to dissolve the sulfur off the battery (where it builds up inside). This is for lead acid and they return batteries to near new. Just follow the directions of whatever you get. They usually want the battery as charged as you can get, then add the desulfator and wait till the light turns green...on ours. Some nickel batteries will refresh if you freeze them. My favorite battery was made for my TI calculator and they run on radioactive embedded in polymere material. It's been running since 1987 on the same battery. |
