Well, not the site itself, but moreso the community. Now, I love you guys in a non-homo way, but come on, we are too tight of a group. We have not gone anywhere for the past few months, and we've all just been doing the same song and dance. Tell me, Who was the latest active member? The last I remember, it was koopa, and that was... what, three months+ back? And do you know why? First off. No one has attempted to advertise, as far as I know. We've been planning and planning, but it all just ends up in a ditch. Second off, No offense to the mods, but they look at site issues too casually. "Oh, we'll attract new members sooner or later" instead of actually trying to get more people. Everyone, for whatever reason, Does not want to go out there and get more people that will stay. No one wants to leave their comfort zone, or even attempt to make new friends on this site, which as far as I've seen with my years of knowledge will cause a site to die. We cant always be the same group of 6th, KAR, Kyou, Van, etc etc. Hell, I left the site for a long while because nothing was happening and it was the same old song and dance. We are getting nowhere fast. We made a new site after, what, a few months of consideration? I can understand all the mods wanting to make sure that things should be 100% sure to work, but we are not going to get anything done if it takes at the very most a month for a change. Let's say the mods just decided to move to a new site again right now. What if the members dont like it? Tough shit, as the mods should have the sites best interest in mind, and keeping the same group around and not attempting to bring anyone into it is an extremely stupid idea. I am by no means someone who speaks for anyone aside from myself, but I can, again, say for sure. The mods are only taking care of the site how it is right now, instead of trying to make it better for the future. And the members dont want to see a single bit of change. Read: Me saying I wanted a different chatbox led to this topic being made. And it was just a suggestion, yet it so easily made the chatbox into a paranoid pile of crap for the time being. Now tell me, What is the worst part about moving to a new chatbox? Can you all not handle a temporary change, let alone a permanent one? You all need to get off your asses, and start doing shit for this site instead of the community it currently holds. |

You complain yet you don't do shit either. Me and 6th are to freaking tired of doing everything ourselves, and members give up once we leave them to handle something. And for the new site or even the site revamp, took place when I needed to step away from my responsibilities and try to heal up. I'm far from 100% and back. Not complaining at all about it is a major feat. I've told people need to step up for me, and get things done. I can do a little, but not a lot. I'm probably around 20%. LinkBean has done a few things last night in regards to advertisement and the only member doing something other than arguing and whining. As for changing things, you want us to change something that we do not want or even see in the future of our site relating to the chatbox. Find something everyone can agree on, then we might do it after a test run. Get off your lazy ass and do something. We're not doing everything, but we'll manage and support everything members want to do to help the site. If I see enough I'll start taking Tylenol as much as possible and try to do my weight around here. |

The reason that *I* don't want to move to a new chatbox is because we can't find one with everything we have here and more. We move to a new chatbox, we lose many of the things that we need for the box to run smoothly (Moderator options, avatars, nice looks, an obvious online user list, etc). Plus, the only person (from what I saw in the box today) who wants a new chatbox is.....you. Oh, and by the way. I started advertising. |

'everyone needs to agree with things' is exactly what I'm saying. A website has moderators to run the site. That's why there's a compliant forum, and members should only have power in there, nowhere else. It is the moderators job to decide things for the site, not the users. If they dont like it, tough shit. This is exactly what I'm saying too. There's no gap between moderators and members, and there hasnt been one for a long while. The mods eventually start doing what they're supposed to be doing (as in running the site on their own) AFTER they're completely fed up with the users not really giving a shit which they never had to in the first place. And yes, I have advertised. I've gotten to -1 on gamefaqs a few days ago solely because I was advertising a lot. Unsucessful, but still. edit: excuse me if I seem aggravated but seeing something like this happen is extremely irritating to me Edited by iliekmudkips, Aug 31 2011, 09:43 PM.

I Don't Know What I'm Doing

... I'd love to see other people's reaction to your ideas about mods and members, but I feel the need to interject here. Do you know ANYTHING about this site? Do you? As an admin I could make as much of a power grab as I like and decide for myself how everything should be run. If nobody liked it - tough nuts, there's no getting rid of me. But you know why I don't? One, these people are my friends, and I don't want to just drag everyone around by the nose. This place is about community, not some mechanically run forum. Two, we wanted this site to be a community for US, a place where WE could be active. When we moved, everyone was in agreement that the members we ALREADY had needed to be more active. Not everyone thought we needed to be a bigger community right away. Three, EVERYONE would immediately start bitching and whining that they don't have enough control, the moderators are power-hungry assholes and should be demoted. That's quite a variety of reasons. Now that last one, is the one we have a problem with. Do you have any idea how much shit we have to put up with when people decide they don't like the way we work? It immediately stops being about the people and friends you know and hang out with, and turns into a huge class conflict with accompanying citizen revolt. The only reason we start doing stuff after we're sure nobody gives a shit is cause... well, nobody WILL give a shit, and they'll stay the fuck out of our way. But noooo, even then people start coming out of the woodwork as soon as things start changing, with every intention of tearing everything down. So, everyone, should I make an announcement and let everyone know that the days of empress 6th and her noble court have begun? Or should I give everyone the respect some don't really deserve and hope you can handle wearing big kid pants on your own? Oh by the way, the whole thing about the chatbox wasn't cause we don't like change. It was cause your idea sucked. If you can find me a chat program that
then I will start listening. But these are all the things we get from xat that we won't get from anything else I've seen. |

Yellbox seems promising. It has avatars, IP ban, smileys, swear filter, spam filter etc. However, it doesn't have Linkvalidator like Xat has. |

So basically "if its not xat then its shit". My idea didnt suck (well it mightva) but its mostly because, as you can see in this quote, that you have extremely high expectations. Anyone who's wearing their 'big boy pants' should know that if you dont like something but it could be better for you in the long run, tough shit. |

Of course you don't think it sucked, it was your idea. In my opinion, changing chatboxes will do nothing to help. Xat works better than most of the boxes that I've seen, and we have all the features we need here. People just need to help out without expecting a reward. You want respecct? Earn it, and stop complaining. |

I Don't Know What I'm Doing

Please. Explain to me. EXPLAIN TO ME. How a chatbox that has LESS functionality than the one we have will be better for us in the long run. These are the things we get out of xat that people like and want. We have not had problems with xat, it has worked for us for YEARS. If you can find something that's as functional as what he have now though, that would be AWESOME, because while I like how xat functions, I do NOT like its primary userbase and how they handle their subscription system. I also hate link validator with a fiery passion. I am not unreasoable. However, I will not trade DOWN to something less, either. So if you have a suggestion, it better include how it WILL be better for us in the long run. Not just cause it's "different." I've used other "different" chatbox type applications and they sucked serious bawls. I would like to find that I've found TWO examples of apps that would work. However, I lost the link to one, and the servers for the second one seem to have been abandoned since 2007. At first I was all :D but then I was all D: cause it had everything I was looking for but wouldn't load. Edited by 6thDimensional, Sep 1 2011, 06:12 PM.

Ok guise, I think we should end this fiery napalm of a trainwreck and move the discussion somewhere less flamey. The Site Construction forum has a topic where you can post chatbox options. Please ONLY post different options. We're not gonna even THINK about changing anything unless something gets some people excited. That isn't the issue here. Just dem options. |
