Julius slowly made his way to the edge of the lake. Dipping his muzzle into the clear water, he drank slowly. By the reflection of the clouds, it looked as if the valley might get snow. He flicked his sandy colored tail as if to ignore the thought. After his drink he turned and made his way to a patch of grass that still had a hint of green to it and began to eat in silence.

He enjoyed his alone time when he could get it. He would even wander off to other parts of the valley. Being curious was fun but also dangerous. Lucky for him, he had never been in a fight yet. He nickered to himself quietly. Today was a good day.

Paolo walked carefully towards the lake. The cold of winter was playing havoc on his already weak body, and by the looks of the clouds, snow was on it's way. The buckskin noticed his herd mate, a larger brindle stallion, eating quietly beside the lake. He thought for a second, finally retrieving the stallions name from his thoughts, Julius.

He changed direction, hobbling towards the stallion. He could do with some company. Not saying anything, he began grazing on the edge of the patch of grass.

Julius sensed the presance of another near him and looked up from beneath his forelock. Upon seeing the buckskin color, he knew who it was. "Hello Paolo." he said in a friendly tone before lifting his head. He was thankful that his fluffy winter coat had come in early. By the looks of the clouds, they were going to start dropping snow on them.

Slowly he moved closer, now in the mood for company. Being alone during a storm in winter would surely mean death for anyone. As the possible bad things that could happen flashed through his mind, he gently shook his head to dismiss the thoughts. He hated how his mind would race without reason.

A cold wind blew, hitting him in the face a fluttering his mane and making him shiver. "Yep..deffinately a storm..with a LOT of snow." he thought with a mental groan. At least he would be with a herd member. With that, he gave a foalish noise of happines and a smile.

Chione was wandering nearby when she sensed the presence of horses by the lake. She quickly decided to go visit the strangers, since it was going to snow soon (though she never really cared about the cold), and hated being all alone.
When she got near enough, Chii recognized the two horses.
"Julius and Paolo!..."

Chii instantelly got into an happy and radiant mood, and started trotting to the lake.

"It's really cold huh? It's definatelly going to snow soon... Luckily my winter coat is almost full grown!"

The Sabino mare wasn't expecting any commentaries so she quickly drank a bit of water and walked to the direction of the stallions.
She started digging the snow for some food, but soon she quit trying. The mare looked to both stallions and asked with a smile:

"So, how are you guys doing?"

(Oh yeah guys, here comes Chione, to end with all the silence you could possibly want. xD)

Julius flicked his tail at the sudden-ness of the noise. When he noticed it was a herd member, he looked. He gave a light smile. At least now they could all take care of each other if the storm got worse. "Other than eatting and hoping that the storm won't be very bad, not much" he answered quietly. Another cold wind blew through causing the grass to dance with it. Julius gave a shiver. He was NOT looking forward to all the snow.

Chii noticed Julius wasn't very happy about the cold weather, and she could only feel sorry about Paolo's condition.

"hm... I really hope it's not going to last long.. I would really try to stay as closer to the herd as possible tonight."

Chione shivered, remembering the cold winter night she was found by the herd, long time ago. She shoke her head trying to forget the scene. Chii hoped no one noticed her quick reaction.

"I just don't know how that lake isn't frozen yet."

The mare said, trying to cover her reaction to her memories.
Chii looked to the skies above, and for a minute, just examined the clouds quickly moving trough the sky.

Julius sauntered closer to Paolo and touched his muzzle to Paolo's shoulder before giving a nicker. He began walking off. "We should find shelter before the storm hits." Julius lifted his head high and gazed at the horizon. He was hoping they weren't far from a cave or a pine forest.

The buckskin smiled politely at Chione as she joined them, continuing to eat whatever fresh looking grass remained. Paolo looked at his back as Chione said something about her winter coat, his own was taking longer than usual to grow, and compared to the rest of the herd he looked like he was ready for a holiday in the Bahamas. He began to feel the cold in his aching joints, thankful at Julius' suggestion, though shying away from his touch slightly. He didn't like to say it, but physical contact freaked him out. "Any ideas on where to go?" he asked, following the stallion as the first flakes of snow began to fall.

Julius shrugged and continued walking. He wasn't sure exactly where he would go, he just wanted to find shelter so that they would be safe. The snow was falling heavier now making Julius shiver. He disliked the snow.
Shaking off the snow that gathered on his body, he finally reached some pine trees. He picked a tall one with slightly low but wide branches and lay down underneithe.

Paolo tried to keep up, stumbling on the freshly fallen snow. He was cold now, painfully so. His joints ached with every wobbly step as he finally caught up with the brindle. He smiled shyly, taking shelter under the same tree, lying close enough to feel some of Julius' warmth. It was a strange sort of comfort for the buckskin, but it was enough, warming him ever so slightly. "Hurry up Chione," he called back towards the lake, peering through the thick snow that was now falling so quickly that the mare could hardly be seen. "You'll catch your death if you aren't careful."
