Lost Faith; Rashid remembers his past again

The sky was blue, covered by only a few clouds as the young Arabian stallion Rashid, once again, stood far away from the rest of the horses. Alone, simply staring at the others.
He didn't move an inch. The sun warmed his body and the colourful leaves fell from the trees he stood in front of, some on the ground beside him, some on his skinny back. "They look happy...", he mumbled with an emotionless face. Watching all of them closely, how they played around and laughed with each other, made Rashid incredibly sad. He would love to have someone to spend his days with, someone who would understand him, who would not betray him. But he accepted the fact that nobody would ever love such a runt like him.
A tear ran down his cheek as he watched the others. Remembering his own happy days way back.

He stood there for a while, simply staring at the happy faces while he cried...
Once betrayed, you'll loose the faith in others. And that lost faith may never return again...

Liam ducked some flying water with a chuckle and continued along the bank of the lake. Perhaps it was overkill to have accompanied the little band of Khoya to the lake; perhaps it was daft to have even humoured them in the first place. The water was way too cold as far as he could tell, and not even the gleeful faces and taunts of his herdmates as they frolicked in the sun-shot spray could tempt him in past his fetlocks. Pausing to glance at them at that moment only earned him a splashed face and water up his nose. Shaking it out with a snort, he cantered up the bank and around, hoping to get a safe distance from the flying tendrils of white. His long, powerful strides took him far enough before he had got all of the drips off and his sopping mane out of his eyes, and it was only as he slowed to a walk that he found himself coming up to the thin little scout, Rashid. He was simply standing there, crying.

Liam cast his mind back. Had there been anything of late to warrant such heartbreak for the little arabian? He couldn't think of anything, but he hadn't exactly been at his most in-touch with the rest of the herd lately. There had just been so much to do. But it was clear that everything was not all right. He slowed his pace, and tilted his head with a concerned expression.

"Whatever is the matter, Rashid?" he asked, quietly enough to be out of earshot of the herd members in the water - not that they would be able to hear much, with the racket they were making. "Has something happened?"

Rashid's eyes widened as he saw his captain. He shook his head, trying to get rid of the tears, and turned his head to the side. "N-Nothing in particular, sir...", he blushed because of the ambarrassing situation. He must have looked miserable in this moment, something he didn't want to show his captain. Unfortunately, the young stallion had a flashback of his past. Just for one second tho, but that was enough to make him cry again. "Hnn...", the tears rolled down his face and his expression clearly showed that he remembered something painful. "I-I'm sorry, sir. Just...just a moment and I'll be alright...". It felt like someone was squeezing his heart and pierced needles through it. Why did it have to happen now that his captain stood in front of him, now of all times.
With an expression mixed of sorrow and pain, he apologized to his captain for this disgraceful behavior: "I'm very sorry, sir. Please forgive me...".
He tried his best but the pain wouldn't stop and the tears as well...

Liam's heart went out to the little scout as he stuttered around his tears. As he reached him, he shook his head with a sad, sympathetic smile; for Rashid to be apologising for showing emotions was ridiculous. They were hardly the Bahari.

"Don't be daft," he said lowly. "There's nothing to forgive." Standing at Rashid's side, he turned to face the same way as him and ended up looking out over the tableau of frolicking, squealing, laughing Khoya. For the poor boy to be weeping while watching them, standing so far away from them - and it wasn't like Rashid was on guard duty - they could only be related in some way. But was it his place to know? And could he even help? He looked back to Rashid and briefly pressed his muzzle comfortingly against the scout's neck, then tilted his head enquiringly once more.

"Would you like to talk about it?"

Rashid blushed as his captain pressed his muzzle against his neck. He rarely experienced such gentleness, that's why he didn't really knew what to do or to say. As his captain then asked if he wanted to talk about his problems, the young stallion hesitated. Nobody ever cared about him or his problems, but the captain was an experienced stallion, maybe he could help him to get over his cruel past. Then again, he didn't really want to bother the captain with his problems. What should he do?
"It's just about my past...", the tears still rolled down his face. "My life has been a mess ever since I was born. And I keep remembering the bad things. Over and over again...". Rashid stared at the other horses again while he talked with the captain. He would surely never be able to play around like they did at that moment. Even if he tried to.
"I have the feeling...I'd be better off dead...", he mumbled accidentaly...

(Sorry about the wait! TKE called)

Liam couldn't help the dismayed look that plastered over his features on hearing Rashid's last words. Better off dead? What had the scout been thinking about? He tried to see Rashid's face from his position next to the little arabian, to look him square in the eye.

"You wouldn't be," he said seriously. He quirked a tiny smile in the corner of his mouth. "We'd all miss you, you see." He nudged Rashid's shoulder, very gently, with his. It had been a long time since he had been two years old, but he recalled it being a fairly cheerful part of his life. Thinking about Rashid having spent the entirety of his life so far under a black cloud was making him feel a little paternal - something normally horribly awkward for him with foals, but seemingly a little easier with a stallion. He glanced at the still-frolicking herd members, then back to Rashid.

"What happened?" he asked gently. "If you're able to talk about it," he added hastily.
