Upon the shore of Clear Water Lake stood a stallion- his palomino coat thick and matted with frost. Great plumes of steam rose from his muzzle, drifting and dissipating over the water- set aflame by the descent of the sun. The dying light danced across the sand beneath his hooves, the shards turned to embers by the warm glow; his own pelt a stark contrast to their brilliance. Like the sun, so too did the year come to pass upon this eve. The stallion recalled his former life, of the quiet celebrations that would mark these final days. With a slight sigh- a harsh exhale in the silence of his solitude- he banished the thoughts from his mind. To grieve for himself was a selfish act, more so than ever tonight. With movements made stiff by the healing of his wounds, Vaquero dipped his maw, grasping the small offering with careful precision- careful to avoid damaging the delicate petals. Glancing skywards, the stallion closed his eyes: so many had made the journey these past moons - far too many souls cast off before their time. Victims of greed, of hunger and war. Slowly, the stallion advanced towards the shore, stopping only when the gentle waves brushed against his fetlocks- the frigid liquid grounding him to the task at hand. With infinite care, he set the blossom upon the crystalline surface, watching as it was swept away. A warrior’s farewell. |

Vaquero nickered softly, nodding before returning his muzzle to rest upon the dark bay's withers. Voice hesitant, he gathered his courage- "I've always believed that it was fate that led me to the valley. All of my life I've followed the stars, and here they are closer than I ever could have imagined they'd be..." He glanced shyly at the glow within the Aboriji's chest. "Much closer." An icy gust startled the palomino from his thoughts, the stallion pinning his eyes against the onslaught. "Perhaps a more sheltered location would be wise, Raul." |

Rául nodded and smiled. "Yes... the stars..." He also felt the icy wind and shivered. With a quick glace over the valley he pointed over to some pines. "I guess there is a more sheltered place." While walking over towards the shelter he tried not to loose the warm body at his side. |

Vaquero trudged alongside the dark stallion, pinning his ears at the burn of the growing storm. Upon reaching the small grove, he raised his muzzle, brushing aside the overhanging branches for Raul to pass beneath. The shelter was adequate, he supposed, though a frigid draft made swept in through a bare patch in the bristles. Noticing his companions discomfort, and with little concern to his own, the palomino collapsed unceremoniously onto his side, drawing his legs towards his belly and effectively blocking the gap with his back. Attempting to repress a shiver as the wind battered his exposed side, he smiled up at the bay. “It seems winter has arrived. Perhaps we should wait for the storm to pass- it would be unwise to travel home in such dreaded weather.” |
