Well, it's election time again. At some point between now and July, we'll all be going to the polls to elect the next government. Expect wall to wall election coverage on the news from now on as all 3 parties ramp up their campaigns. The 3 main parties as I see them right now: Labour: they look really faded after so many years in government. Suffering from a general lack of public trust stemming mainly from Blair's various little wars. Many internally in the party believe that they can't win the election with Brown in charge, but not enough momentum to dislodge him last week means they are stuck with him now. Conservatives: Shiny new Tories, but do people really think they've changed? Election time means local party activists on the doorstep, and the Tory faithful are fucking mentalists and might well put a lot of floating voters off. Lib Dems: Just ditched a whole load of their longstanding policies as they're now financially non-viable. Clegg is a bit of a weak character, but the party could pick up disenchanted voters from both sides. Strong possibility of holding balance of power in a hung parliament. Who's looking forward to all this? Or does it fill you with a sense of dread? |

Go to the polls eh? Voting's just an excuse to get out of work early and head to the pub. |

Good post Loki, yeah I'm pretty interested in it this time around as I've been doing politics modules at uni and read about it all the time. I wrote a post on my nerdy little blog page yesterday actually saying that I've no clue who I'm going to vote for. Labour is full of back-stabbers just out for themselves, and the Tories are being very vague about things. But then, it's maybe better being vague and unsure rather than promising the world then not delivering. Did anyone hear Cameron on the Richard Bacon 5Live show yesterday afternoon? There were some good soundbites of Cameron saying "I don't know" about 5 or 6 times in one sentence. He was blaming not knowing anything on Labour of course, but at least he wasn't making shit up I suppose. |

Looking forward to the televised debates for sure, and the hysteria around the BNP is always good for a giggle. I'll be very honest and say that I have no idea what policies the Lib Dems have dropped. I'm pretty much out of touch. My bold prediction - The Tories piss it and Gordon Brown resigns from Labour in disgrace. |

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8450863.stm - Clegg shelving policies. He's right, but it looks weak. |

I'd rather let Bono cum in my mouth than vote Conservative. I'll probably plump for Labour, just because they're the lesser of two evils. |

The smart thing Loggers would be tactical voting if you're in a Tory-held seat, or one that's marginal. Vote for whichever of Labour or Lib Dems is most likely to keep Tory Boy out of that seat. I'm predicting a hung parliament - I think the Tories will get the most seats, but not an overall majority. They'll then form a minority government with the Lib Dems, with Vince Cable getting the Chancellorship and Clegg as Home Secretary probably. They should also get election reform, making General Elections proportional in some way like the local or European elections. |

Well I'll be voting Lib Dem, just because I hate the tories and Labour don't stand a chance here. The biggest problem locally is the Tory led council and the mayor with his "mayoral vision". Which is a shame because my local Lib Dem MP seems like a sensible bloke who gets his ideas blocked. |

One of the main reasons the Tories have no chance of my vote this time round: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8458271.stm They and their thinktanks are gearing up to dismantle the BBC after election. If you're wondering why the Tory party have suddenly gone so anti-BBC, look no further than the Sun/Murdoch's decision to throw their weight and influence behind Cameron and his coke-snorting buddies. That's a price that's not worth paying. |

Surely sports involving the national teams are one of the few things that should be broadcast for all who pay the license fee? Does it actually mention the Tories by name in that report? I realise as the think-tank is central right that it's likey the Tories will use such a report but can't see them by name. |

It's a Tory policy unit in all but name, funded by the Tories etc. I really hate the attacks on the BBC. It's an incredibly important British institution, so enmeshed in our culture that we don't even realise. Having a large, publically funded, free and independent news broadcaster is really important for our democracy. If you look at the US, all their coverage is biased one way or the other, so it's hard to get a clear read on any story. It's also good to have a properly non-commercial public broadcaster that makes documentaries and drama. The idea of using licence payer money to prop up Channel4 or C5 is stupid. There are two main reasons for the current attacks on the BBC. One is Murdoch's dislike of how far ahead of the field BBC News is. Particularly the BBC website. Because it's a publically-owned business, he can't buy it so he wants to put it out of business. More generally, the Beeb has expanded its output via BBC Worldwide and its commercial arm to create a large independent revenue through its back catalogue. I see no problem in the Beeb generating its own income seeing as it all gets spent on programming, but some of its commercial competitors think it's unfair. |

This year’s election will be reminiscent of the Douche vs Turd episode of South Park. I completely agree on the BBC (well some of the salary stuff needs to be addressed). I can’t support a party that’s willing to team up with an odious Australian megalomaniac to take down one of the last national treasures we have left. I can’t help but feel the Lib Dumbs missed a trick by not making Vince Cable their leader. I know how it would have looked after they dumped Menzie for being a pensioner but the guy is a terrific politician and someone I certainly could have got behind. Seems like he was the only guy in the country who saw the recession coming, he was whiter than white during the expenses scandals and of course his “Stalin to Mr Bean” speech on Gordon Brown might have been the funniest in the recent history of the commons. Not saying he’d win an election but I reckon he would have won over a lot of floaters. I really hope he doesn’t get into bed with the Tories if it’s a hung parliament. |

He's a shoe-in for Chancellor Honky, it's a done deal according to my source in the Tory party. Just in time to get the glory for coming out of the recession. I personally think he's got the paedo smile and that's why they've not gone with him as leader though. |

If Gordon has any love for the Honky Man he’ll drop the E-Bomb just before the World Cup. |
