Apparently I am clueless when it comes to current music. I like good driving music -- something with a good beat (I'm a big fan of reggae, for instance), nice jams (Grateful Dead, Phish, etc. styles), or a really pretty/strong voice. I downloaded a song by Bruno Mars tonight and an Adele song (thanks to some friends who introduced me to their music). Suggestions? Any new artists out there I should be listening to? |

I can only hook you up with tunes if you like electronica or bluegrass/folk. Either of those appealing? |

Yeah...new artists...what? Haha. I will look through my iTunes later and see what I have that's more recent. Not new, but for the last couple of days I've been jamming out to Sublime's Badfish. It's happy/mellow/reggae. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmadSGJCzo8 |

Same here. I was like, "Oh I like that Black Eyed Peas song from Oprah" and my friends at the book club just laughed. "You know Oprah doesn't have a show any more, right?" /clueless I like the sound of that one, Bou. Thanks!

Not new but have you checked out The Avett Brothers? I love them a lot. I think Mumford & Sons, which is the band that seems to be getting more press & praise these days, is actually a poor man's version of The Avett Brothers. I've been in this place where i can't listen to most music all b/c it is about love and that makes me cry. So, I've mostly been listening to hiphop & rap. I find Tupac & Biggie to have just the right amount of rage for me these day. But my boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, is coming out with a new album and that is giving me some hope. I will say that his "Cry Me a River" & "What Goes Around Comes Around" are already on heavy rotation. In the past, to discover new music, I would go to Pandora. You can pick a station in a genre you like and hear lots of new stuff. Or you can program your own station and if you pick one or two new-ish songs that you like, the other songs will generally be in a similar vein. I also find the NPR Music page a great place for unknown gems. I"ll go thru my iPod one day soon and throw out some suggestions. |

Oh, how I love "What Goes Around Comes Around". The first time I heard it, JT was performing on some awards show and had a full choir for backup. It stopped me in my tracks and I liked it immediately. Mmmm, your boyfriend. |

I didn't even think of that! I pretty much stick with my XTC channel there. I'll go do it now.

I have new music for you! Look up Ximena Sarinana's latest album from 2010. I think that might be your style. |
