Here's my story about the soap bug that bit me!

In the spring of of 2008, I had a skin irritation and decided to go online and search the internet for remedies other than a prescription. (I did get a prescription which worked but wanted to find more of a natural remedy). I came across a website showing how to make soap with lye and oils. Did you know all soap must have lye to make soap? Oh, yes... look on the package of your store bought soap; that ingredient called sodium hydroxide is lye. Lye is very dangerous and must be handled with great care. If it touches the body, it can cause 2nd and even 3rd degree burns. That scared the bejesus outta me! No way was I gonna mess with lye. So, I kept looking and searching, and then I stumbled across a website showing readers how to make melt-n-pour soap. Melt & Pour soap had already been made into soap, then hardened into a block. Hmmm, sounded interesting; it was quite safe, no lye to mess with as it was already made. I went to my nearby Hobby Lobby and purchased a 2-lb. block of soap and a soap mold. Wow, this was fun! I just made soap that I could wash with... it was really awesome!! A few more times of doing the melt & pour was fun... but it was lacking something. Now please, don't misinterpret me; I am not putting down anyone who makes melt & pour soap. If you do a Google search for melt and pour soap recipes, you'll see there are endless creations, and they are so beautiful! I am not so creative in the way those melt and pours were represented, so I thought I should go reading about making soap from scratch and try it. So, for over two weeks, I poured over the internet making sure I had all the safety measures in place and memorized for making my soap.

In September of 2008, I 'dipped my feet' into making soap using lye. I have pictures I may post with my gloves and safety glasses on... if I had a white lab jacket you would've sworn I was a mad scientist! LOL

My first recipe was a simple 3-4 different oils, lye and water, with some fragrance oil. Oh, wow... what a rush! Mix, pour, set for 12-24 hours; unmold, cut and let set for 6 weeks to cure. I was hooked! I couldn't wait to make my next batch of soap. My second batch was trashed; I forgot to add one of the oils and it came out awful. Making soap is a science, sort of (I hated science in school). But my 3rd recipe was an oatmeal, milk & honey concoction that was out of this world! And, more soaps.

Then, my wonderment bloomed out into skincare... facial grains, lotions, creams, etc. The search is endless and I am still researching it all. Once someone starts this adventure, if they really love it, you cannot shake the want to keep going, keep trying to get it right.

Once I have my insurance and formal website, I plan on selling my products locally. My thoughts are these: start small, think BIG! One never knows what lays ahead for them. I am open to it all, but am quite fine with selling locally. I have many dreams associated with this business.... so many ideas, so many future products in the wings as time goes by.

My main desire, in these forum discussions, is to make my readers aware of what is really good for your skin, and why I use it in my recipes. You don't have to spend a bunch of money to get really great skincare products for your face and body. I want to do the research for you, and offer these products to you so you can have great skin, and feel good. Questions are always welcome as well. The members can start a topic about something they want to know more about, and I will try my hardest to give the most honest answers and help them understand.

Here's my take on my skincare products. I believe that less is more when it comes to soap and skincare products. Only the best ingredients for your skin are used, using in-depth research and testing. Plus, when I start selling the products, the packaging will be simple, but nice. So, you, the customer, will be paying more for the product itself, and a whole lot less for the packaging. Think about it... will you be putting the packaging on your skin for beneficial matters? Packaging can be pretty and appealing without being so expensive. I will be offering packaging that is pleasing to the eye, most will be earth-friendly, and the best part is most of your hard earned money is being paid for the product itself.

I'm no expert, by any means! I just have the desire to bring what I've found to my Members.

I hope y'all enjoy this forum. It is for knowledge, friendship, fun.
