LunaSkyo's Thread Nikki threw open the door to the gym, the wind and rain slamming into her back as she stepped inside and let the wind close the doors behind her. She took off her scarf and shook the water from it before re-wrapping it around her neck. She shook her hair out and then looked down at her new outfit: A brown jacket with a yellow undershirt, and a light brown skirt. On her way to the gym she was approached by some man from a group named Team Dusk. He told her about how Solar Inc was planning to destroy Pokemon habitat for their commercial benefit. Nikki found that outrageous. Nikki would've joined just because of that, but the offers started rolling in. She gained 1,000 money, five pokeballs, and they said that they put a Pokemon in her PC. She made a note to check and see what Pokemon she had gotten after her gym battle. She unbuttoned her jacket and stepped into the darkness of the gym. "I want a gym battle," she called into the darkness. At first as you called into the darkness in front of you it seemed like nothing had been stirred by your entrance. The entire gym remained steeped in an eerie darkness that seemed to devour everything in it's path. After a few minutes however, a single weak light flashed on in the distance that did very little to actual illuminate the arena. In the barely noticeable spotlight stood a rather tall and dark looking man who was simply staring down at the nothingness in front of him. Slowly he began to look up at you, a feat that seemed impossible given the fact that he was wearing sunglasses in a pitch black room. Nevertheless, he smirked over at you as you walked in further and in a swift motion removed his glasses while slicking back his hair. "Welcome to my gym," he greeted stretching his arms out to showcase his arena, even though it was impossible to see, "You may have guessed but I am Derrik, the leader of the Darkcrest Gym. Welcome to the pitch black abyss. If it is a challenge you seek, then look no further." Walking into the spotlight next to him a Houndour glared over at you, assessing whether or not you would be a worthy challenge. "Allow me to send out my first pokemon," Derrik said pulling a pokeball out of the darkness next to him. With a flick, it shot into the air and unleashed a pokemon that hit the light of the roof causing it to sway slowly. As the pokemon landed in the darkness the spotlight slowly crept over it revealing a Cacnea grinning widely over towards you. The spotlight began to swing back towards Derrik, plunging the Cacnea into darkness once more. Nikki looked around the darkness and noticed how fighting blindly was going to be hard. One Pokemon instantly jumped to mind. "I only need one Pokemon for this battle," she scoffed as she pulled out a pokeball and tossed it into the field. Anubis, the Lucario, growled softly as he came out from his pokeball. The burst from it lit up the room just long enough for Anubis to see his opponent, which was a Cacnea. Then it wwas pitch dark again. "Anubis, you're going to have to use your Aura Sight to battle, got it?" Nikki called out in the general direction of Anubis. The Lucario nodded then closed his eyes. The darkness faded away and now Anubis could see a blue outline of Cacnea, Derrik, and his Houndoom. "Use Blaze Kick." Anubis nodded then sprinted forward. His feet became covered in blue flames as he prepared to slam his foot into the cacnea. Derrik's interest in the battle seemed piqued as you unleashed your Lucario in front of yourself, as did the Houndour who was resting at his feet. They had at first thought of you as a Rookie trainer, but seeing your evolved pokemon left them realising that this wasn't going to be as easy as they thought. A sweat drop ran down Cacnea's face as well as he spotted the Lucario, knowing all too well how strong these pokemon could be. Derrik smirked despite everything though and muttered, "Impressive." As Anubis pushed forward in the darkness, Derrik's face instantly turned serious as he growled out, "Dodge it!" to his Cacnea who quickly rolled to the side out of the path of the powerful flaming kick. He managed to dodge it quite cleaning, but was panting heavily and sweating profusly from the sheer heat being given off by the Lucario's leg. "Now use your Sand-Attack!" Derrik commanded as Cacnea slapped one of his needly arms off the ground and flinging a pile of sand straight up towards Lucario's eyes. Anubis turned his head to follow the Cacnea, only to be greeted with a face full of dust and sand. This caused Anubis to lose his focus and open his eyes to look into the darkness. At least now he was close enough to actually make out the green little Pokemon. "Take it out with a Blaze Kick, and don't miss this time," Nikki grumbled. Anubis nodded, not really paying much attention to Nikki's snappy mood. Backhanding the sand from his eyes (mostly) he jumped up. As he fell back to the ground, he raised his knee almost up to his chin and then prepared to slam his flaming foot into the Cacnea's head. Thankfully, the fire from his foot lit up the area and allowed him to hone in on Cacnea. Nikki watched as Anubis leaped into the air and prepared to slam his foot into the Cacnea's head. Sudden, Nikki found herself standing on top of the tower, facing the psychotic Alex who claimed to be Asylum. Golett was facing off against Drowzee and Anubis, who was now a little Riolu and flying down from the air. He was glaring down at a Cacnea as his blazing foot just missed the Cacnea. Anubis winced and then stumbled back. Nikki gasped as she returned to reality. Her eyes were wide with fear and she found herself sitting on the ground, her legs and hands shaking violently. What just happened? Derrik once again tried to yell out to the Cacnea to dodge but it was already too late. Anubis had landed straight on top of the small cactus pokemon with his blazing kick and essentially smooshed it into the ground. The Cacnea rolled back a few times before flopping out with a large scorched foot shape on his head. Derrik growled lowly as he returned the pokemon to it's pokeball before glancing back over to you. His expression quickly changed to one of concern when he spotted that you had collapsed onto the ground and were shaking with what looked like fear. Houndoor smirked at the sight, but after a glare from his trainer he returned to a bored look. "Are you alright?" Derrik asked softly looking over you with a look of geninue concern, "Do you wish to postpone this battle?" As you sat on the ground, the ring that Jack's gran had given you slipped out of one of your pockets and clanged against the ground loudly. It had a strange look to it, you would almost saying it was glowing if it wasn't for the fact that it was pitch black. It almost seemed like it was sucking all of the colour out of the air around it. It remained that way for a few seconds, before returning to it's normal silver. Derrik's voice was a dull mumble in comparison to the thoughts that pounded against her skull. Even the loud clanking of the ring hardly effected her. She slowly picked up the ring and looked at it. For a split second she felt like her old, naive self. She felt a tickle of happiness. Then it was all washed away by the memory scratching the back of her eyes. She grumbled then shoved the ring back into her pocket and stood back up. "I'm fine. Send out your next Pokemon," she said with a growl. Why should he care if she was okay in the first place? Maybe he didn't even care. Maybe he wanted to postpone the match so he could train and get the upper hand that Nikki had worked so hard to get herself. Anubis glanced back at Nikki with a worried look, but when she snapped at Derrik he quickly looked back at Derrik. Anubis' expression was impassive and impossible to read. Derrik simply glared over at you for a few seconds, perhaps to assess whether or not you truly were fine like you said you were. After a couple of seconds he simply nodded as he returned the glasses to his face. "Fine," he muttered, "Let us continue, hero of Darkcrest." With a swift motion he unleashed his next pokemon in front of him, a Sneasel who almost instantly vanished from sight as soon as she appeared. Derrik kept his rather blank expression as he stared over at you and thought out his first move. "Sneasel, use Quick attack," he ordered looking over at the darkness, possibly to where the Sneasel was. It was hard to tell exactly where she was coming from, it seemed like she was sprinting with Quick Attack the minute she had touched the ground. Suddenly from behind Anubis, a black blur dashed into view and flew straight towards your pokemon's back. The Sneasel was truly moving at blinding speeds, in a pitch black room. It was going to be hard to keep up with. Nikki twitched at the title he had given her. "hero of Darkcrest?" she mumbled under her breath as if it were an insult. What she did was anything but heroic. What she saw was something she didn't plan to see again. Anubis hardly grunted when the Quick Attack struck his back. Being a steel type, the attack did virtually nothing to him. Acting on his own instincts, he turned as soon as Sneasel had made contact and prepared to slam the palm of his hand into the Pokemon's chest. The center of his palm had begun to glow bright blue, illuminating the area just enough for him to see Sneasel and to cast an eery glow on his face. Derrik didn't seem to notice your twitch at the mention of being a "hero", although the blank look on his face and the tone with which he said it suggested that he may in fact believe it to be true. Regardless, he watched the battle with the same intensity and simply said, "dodge," to his Sneasel. As your Lucario's palm came round to strike the opponent, it wafted straight through a grinning after image of a pokemon that escaped into the darkness once again. "Your Lucario is fast," Derrik said letting out a cocky grin, "but Sneasel is faster." You could hear the sounds of rapid movement all around the gym, as if the Sneasel was simply toying with you and Anubis. "Sneasel, strike it again with Quick Attack! Chip away at him until he faints!," Derrik commanded into the darkness. There was a snickering reply as the sound of rapidly moving feet began to grow louder and moved ever so slighty closer to Anubis. Suddenly, Sneasel was again sprang from the darkness and dashed towards your Lucario at blinding speeds, straight towards his spine once again. "Listen and then jump," Nikki said in a monotone. Anubis nodded and closed his eyes, listening to the sounds of Sneasel scamper around the gym floor. The foot steps got louder until Sneasel was right behind him. He sprang up into the air, just high enough to dodge. His foot was already on fire with blue flames by the time the words "Blaze Kick" passed Nikki's lips. Anubis folded his body so that his blazing ankle would slam directly into Sneasel's head, and hopefully stop the annoying Pokemon dead in her tracks. The Sneasel growled as Anubis leapt out of her range into the air, and immediately pushed off the ground to follow. She quickly began to realise how foolish this had been as Anubis foot began to light up with blue fire and she was floating helplessly through the air. She could only pre-emptively wince in pain as the foot struck her head and sent her plummeting towards the ground of the gym with an almighty thud and a massive cloud of dust and smoke. From what little you could make of the gym, you could see the fainted outline of the Sneasel laying on the floor. It was lit up for a few seconds as Derrik returned her to her pokeball then looked back over at you. "Houndour, you're up," He simply commanded as the Houndour smirked and stepped forwards into the darkness. It disappeared for a few seconds, before flames spewing from the sides of his mouth lit up his face. "Use Ember!" Derrik commanded as the Houndour unleashed a wave of fire that momentarily lit up the entire room as it spread across the field towards your Lucario. It certainly looked like a powerful fire attack and it was coming in quickly. Anubis struggled to focus in on Houndour as he disappeared into the darkness. That didn't last long. A blast of red hot flames shot across the field and slammed into him. At the last second, Anubis put up his forearms in a cross-like shape to black his face and chest. That hardly took any of the power from the attack. Anubis gasped and winced as the flames licked at his body and burned him. This was the first time he had ever actually been hurt. He gasped once more and then lunged forward. He didn't care what Nikki had to say, he was too pissed to care about her stupid commands. That Ember HURT. Anubis pulled back his palm, which had begun to glow blue. Anubis closed in on Houndour quickly and prepared to slam his palm into the Pokemon's head. Nikki grunted as she saw Anubis act on his own will and she made a mental note to have some serious one on one training with him to bend him back into shape. She needed Pokemon that would listen to her without question and never act out of line. How was she supposed to take down Asylum if her Pokemon acted like selfish brats? The houndour smirked as he saw his ember strike the target and leave what looked to be a painful burn on him. The smirk quickly returned to a look of serious consideration as the Lucario quickly struck back with his own force palm. "Dodge," Derrik quickly commanded as Houndour crouched down slightly. With a burst of speed, the pokemon disappeared into the darkness skimming past Anubis's hand. The Force palm struck the ground where he had been and left a small indent of Anubis's paw. For a few seconds there was silence and darkness. Derrik was issuing no other commands, seemingly confident in his pokemons ability to fight without it. Suddenly another part of the room was lit up as the Houndour unleashed another torrent of fiery embers that lit up the room and started to float across towards Anubis. "You didn't think it was going to be that easy did you, hero of Darkcrest," Derrik said once again seemingly just as sincere as before. "DON'T CALL ME THAT!" Nikki suddenly shouted out, causing Anubis to flinch, and in term, get blasted by another fiery Ember. "I am NOT your Hero. I did NOTHING to help you pathetic people. And I DO NOT want to be given such a STUPID title," Nikki growled. "Stop whining, Anubis, and use Force Palm. Don't miss this time," she barked. Anubis grunted and held his scorched arm. The two ember attacks were starting to take their toll on him. Not to mention the little pecks of damage he had taken before. He took in a calming breath to steady himself and then rushed forward once more. His palm glowed a light blue as he closed in on Houndour once more. Derrik seemed rather unfazed by your outburst although it made the houndour flinch slightly as well when you first screamed at him. He just stood still and listened to what you had to say. Then he rose his head up slightly and replied, "Whether you want it or not, that is the title you have earned. For whatever reason drove you to fight against that man, your actions saved this town from descending further into chaos and madness. If not for you, then many of the people trying to return to normality out in the town right now would either be completely insane or worse. I don't care why you did it, but what you did was heroism. Maybe instead of focusing solely on what it meant for you, you should start looking at the bigger picture." Houndour got smacked in the face by the force palm and skidded backwards across the floor. He didn't look too great from the hit, but he wasn't down yet. "However, it is not my place to tell you how to think, I'm just giving you an alternative viewpoint on everything. Before we conclude this battle however there is something I wish to say to you," Derrik said slowly removing the glasses from his face so that he could look into your eyes with sincerity. Houndour looked up at him slightly confused by the gym leaders attitude, usually he was a lot cooler than this. "Thank you. For everything." He then whipped the glasses back on to his face and pointed directly towards your Lucario. "EMBER!" Houndour quickly complied and shot another batch of fiery embers towards Anubis. They seemed weaker now though, perhaps due to Houndours weakening state. They barely covered half the area the previous ones had as they spread through the air towards Anubis. |

As Derrik spoke, Nikki's defensive stance and heavy glare both seemed to lighten as she lowered her eyes. She was being selfish, but she didn't feel like a hero, nor did she want people thinking that going off and doing stupid things like that is something that would make them heroic. What if some little boy in Darkcrest heard the legend of the Hero of Darkcrest and then decided to run off an chase after Asylum too? Nikki would never forgive herself if her actions caused someone else to end up like her. 'I'm perfectly fine,' she thought to herself. Which was the truth in her eyes. She wasn't insane. She had just set goals for herself and she was determined to make those goals real. But her eyes were still focused on the ground, even as Houndour shot out his fiery embers towards Anubis. At the last second, Nikki winced and then recalled Anubis, protecting him from the damage. She looked down at Anubis' pokeball, her fingers tight around the ball. She was hoping he would've been able to win, but Nikki knew there was no way he was going to be able to dodge the Ember, and he couldn't have taken another hit. She put away his pokeball and then tossed a new pokeball out in front of her. Blitzkrieg stomped his foot on the ground and snorted at Houndour. Though it was just a faint whisper, Blitzkrieg's ears shot up as he heard Nikki say: "Shock Wave". His mane started to glow a bright light, making everything visible in the gym. Blitz smirked. Now that Houndour couldn't hide in the darkness. Sparks of bright yellow electricity began to snake all around his body. He lowered his head and stomped his foot once more, which seemed to be the trigger of his attack. A massive wave of electricity blasted out from all angels of his body and shot out across the gym, covering every inch of the gym. [[OOC: Blitzkrieg is faster than Houndour, that's why I'm attacking right after bringing him out.]] [330] |

Both Derrik and Houndour seemed to flinch as the name of the attack entered their ears. Despite how quiet you had whispered it did appear that both of them had heard you and that both of them seemed to recgonise the attack. "Another Shockwave user?" Derrik winced, "Goddamit." Normally this is where he would tell his Houndour to attempt to dodge but much like a trainer had recently told him this was an attack that never missed. As the electricity blasted out from Blitzkreig it was clear that this was going to hurt a lot. For a few seconds, every corner of the gym became illuminated but it didn't last long enough for you to notice anything other than Houndour slouching to the ground. The houndour was gasping for air as he tried to push himself back onto his feet, but it was hopeless. His knees gave way and he finally crumbled down onto the ground, completely defeated. Derrik stood calmly for a few seconds before pulling out a pokeball and returning his houndour to it. "Very well done, you truly are deserving of the gym badge," Derrik said clapping his hands. From the darkness behind you, a Cacturne stepped forward holding a large purple, velvet pillow. Laying on top of it were three items. "Please accept the Shadow Badge," Derrik began to explain as the Cacturne pushed the pillow out towards you, "Also I would like to offer you these Black glasses that boost the power of dark attacks, and this TM which contains the move Shadow Claw." |

Blitzkrieg huffed and stood up proudly as he watched Houndour fall to the ground. Too easy. With a confident snort, he trotted back to Nikki and smiled up at her. Nikki's face was impassive as Blitzkrieg trotted up to her with a proud expression on his face. She managed a smile, though it was obviously fake, and then recalled her partner. She looked over at the Cacturne and raised an eyebrow. What an odd way to give rewards. She thought to herself. She shrugged then took her badge and items. After pocketing her items, she pulled her scarf over her mouth and started for the door. once again, her voice was hardly audible, but she did mumble a "thank you." She walked outside and instantly made her way to the Pokemon Center. ~End Thread.~ |
