The visit to the professor had gone better than expected. Keenan had only been in there for a few minutes and already he walked out the door with an important mission and the promise of future assistance from Maple. He should've been glad but instead he felt like something was wrong. It was a strange thing that the professor put so much trust in any average joe that stumbled upon the lab. She surely seemed eager to hand the Absol to Keenan and he was getting scared of the fact that this Pokémon might be more than he could handle. Caution didn't seem to suit Keenan very well but nonetheless he reached into his backpack and took two Pokéballs from it. Just to be sure. He released the two Pokémon that were inside them; A Cubone and a Shieldon.

The Cubone was called Ivory. He was Keenan's most prized possession although Keenan didn't think of Pokémon as things people could own. Pokémon were equal to humans, not inferior. That was Keenan's theory. On the other hand he did also realize that some Pokémon were simply too dumb to use all their potential without someone to guide him. He didn't mean that as an insult to those Pokémon, it is simply a notification of a flaw. Keenan's theory was best represented by his relationship with Ivory. They weren't master and slave at all, they were friends. Ivory was very modest and humble and wouldn't mind being a slave to a trainer but nevertheless he was glad that Keenan treated him as an equal.

The Shieldon, Proto, was a bit of a different story. Proto didn't even give Keenan the opportunity to treat him like he would any other Pokémon or human. Proto insisted on serving Keenan. He was always very hard on himself whenever he thought he had done injustice to Keenan. Proto gained this grateful attitude from the knowledge that Keenan was the one who revived his fossil. He was the one that had awakened him from millions of years of hibernation. Now that Proto was finally awake he wanted to see the world. Desperately.

Proto jumped with joy as he was released from his spherical prison. He didn't like it in there at all. Ivory only turned his head to Keenan and tilted it as a way of asking "What's going on? Why did you send me out?" Keenan didn't have time to explain though as Proto was already running off. Keenan managed to stop him before he darted away. The Shieldon was irritated but didn't show it. "Proto, before we head out there's a few things we need to equip you with." Keenan said while he reached into his bag and pulled out a strange looking stone, a disk and something that somewhat looked like a belt.

Keenan had built the latter contraption before he left home back in Sinnoh but in all the hurry he forgot to actually use it. The odd rock was a chunk of Eviolite, a mysterious stone that protected the holder as long as it still had the ability to evolve. Keenan slipped the Eviolite in a kind of pocket on the belt. He then put the belt around a now confused Proto and tightened it. "Is it too tight?" Keenan asked with a clearly concerned voice. Proto shook his head but still had a puzzled look in his eyes so Keenan explained. "That stone will make you stronger. You want to be stronger, right?" Proto was hesitant but eventually decided to trust his trainer and nodded.

The only thing that was still left unused was the disk. Ivory noticed it and picked it up from the ground and waved it in front of Keenan's face. The young man smiled and took the TM from his friend. "This is a Technical Machine, guys." Keenan said as he held the disk up, "This will teach you both a new move that you'll probably like." He took the machine and pressed it against Proto's shield. He had never done this before but he was told that pressing the TM against the forehead of the Pokémon will teach the move automatically. It seemed like an odd theory to Keenan but it was worth a shot. Proto's eyes widened as his brain was filled with information. He smiled and pushed the disk back, indicating that the process had been completed.

Ivory, jealous of his fellow Pokémon, grabbed the disk from Keenan's hands and pushed it against his bone forehead. His mind was also given data on how to whip up sandstorms. He finally gave the TM back to Keenan who put it back in his backpack. His team was finally ready to move out and complete their mission. He would explain it to Ivory and Proto along the way. For now they seemed to follow him just fine. Keenan walked towards the wilderness that was just outside the city. He was hoping, yet doubting, that the Absol would follow him and kept a close eye on the elegant creature.

Absol, though following you, kept a fair distance from you as a sign he was clearly not pleased about being with you, or the weak team of Pokemon you had. As if to let you know that he was the strongest Pokemon around, he opened his mouth and released a massive, orange and red beam into the sky. His Hyper Beam was obviously well used and very strong, considering it sliced through a cloud above. Absol grunted then trotted past you and into the busy town known as Soulridge.

[Current mood - Displeased]

Naturally, you probably followed Absol, considering you couldn't lose this Pokemon. But, it seemed that was a good thing, because when you caught up to the annoyed Pokemon, you saw that he was chatting away with a Raichu. The Raichu seemed to be having a good time, while Absol hardly smiled. Nevertheless, seeing a Raichu was a rare treat.

Ivory walked beside Keenan and calmly observed his surroundings. He didn't seem to like the idea of the strange Absol following them and Keenan feared that he needed to explain the situation soon. He postponed that moment for as long as he could though. He wasn't very eager to tell his companions what kind of foolish and hopeless quest he had taken on. A few feet ahead of them was the joyfully sprinting figure of Proto who took time to actively investigate every building and person that came along. It was a cute sight but it mostly just annoyed Keenan. Proto was causing people to pay more attention to Keenan than he'd like.

The trio suddenly stopped and turned around when a giant ray of light shot upwards from behind them. The origin of the impressive cloud-cutting Hyper Beam attack was Absol. Keenan did his best not to feel intimidated but he wasn't used to escorting such a dangerous guest. Most of his life had been spent digging for rocks and drooling over the exciting lives of others. Now that his own life started to get interesting he didn't like it at all.

Just when the Absol seemed to cool down again it suddenly ignored Keenan entirely and went its own way; into the city. This was bad. Absol was Keenan's only ticket to drag professor Maple and maybe even professor Oak into his debt. He couldn't lose the creature now or else it would be the other way around.

And so Keenan, the unwilling host, followed Absol, the unwilling guest, into a city that was completely unknown to him. Proto and Ivory were puzzled as to why their owner suddenly ran off after a strange Pokémon but didn't have time to ask so they simply followed. Keenan felt a great relief when Absol stopped and interacted with another Pokémon. The Pokémon was a Raichu. Keenan once knew a kid that owned a Pikachu and he had shown Keenan pictures of its evolution. Keenan figured that the fact that Raichu was already evolved meant that it was most likely stronger than his own Pokémon, even with a type disadvantage, so he approached the dangerous duo with care.

"Um, Absol..." Keenan said as he neared the two Pokémon and saw his own Pokémon arrive on the scene from the corner of his eye. He wasn't quite sure what to say to Absol. He could ask it to come with him but the creature obviously didn't want that. Suddenly Keenan remembered the paper that the professor handed to him earlier. It said that a way to calm down Absol was to feed him Figy berries. Keenan also remembered that Maple had given him ten of those berries. He quickly reached into his bag and obtained one from it. "Are you hungry?" Keenan asked Absol as he waved the Figy berry in front of its nose.

Absol cast a sideways glance at you as you spoke his name. His fur even bristled as he noticed you moving closer to him. He snarled and it looked like he was about to snap at you, but then the Raichu walked up to him, patted his head, then said something to him. Absol blinked, rolled his eyes, then blinked as the scent of a Figy berry filled the air. He instantly chomped down on the berry, a modest smile on his face as his body seemed to relax a bit.

Current Mood: Happy

Raichu laughed at Absol's strong weakness for Figy berries then walked up to you and extended his hand. The Raichu smiled and exclaimed: "Rai~ Chu~" as a way of greeting you. Well, at least this Pokemon wasn't looking for a fight.

Just then a blue and white Pokemon swooped in from the sky and landed on Raichu's head. The swallow-like Pokemon looked you over, huffed, then smiled softly at you. "Taillow!" The Pokemon said in a calm voice before fluffing her feathers and pecking a few specks of dirt from her wings.

Raichu smiled up at the Taillow then looked back at you warmly. Whereas, Absol moved to sit beside Raichu, facing you, and mumbled something up at the Taillow. After getting no response from the Taillow, Absol grunted then looked at you expectantly. It was as if he was judging how you would react around his apparent Friends.
