Basically asking if the effectiveness of a purple throw is overshadowed by the "in bad taste" effect it has. Yesterday annoyed the hell out of me and I am looking for some guidance on purple throw etiquette. |

I think certain purple throw set ups are fine.. but overusing them is when the salt begins to crust. For example, 6A>Buster is totally legit... as is MTW>RC>Buster. Those are pretty viable options on or offline and teching a throw should be in the back of anyone's mind when either of those set ups start. Personally, I try to think of online purps as bursts... trying not to do more than 1 or 2 in a match. Or... you know, none.. but that depends on the flow of the match, really. |

From DL: "When thrown an exclamation mark will appear. When that happens, you can press B+C to escape the throw. This action is known as "breaking throws". Under normal conditions, you will see 1 green exclamation mark and have a 13 frame window to break the throw. If you throw them when they are in block stun or hit stun (plus 6 frames afterwards on either), you will see 2 purple exclamation marks, and you have a 27 frame window to break the throw. Most regular throws have a start-up of 7, so in this situation you technically have 1F advantage to make a green throw." Okay so... according to frame data, Tager can do a 5 frame throw with GETB, 6f with 360B. Lets use the 720 for this example though. Seeing the superflash, you know it's going to happen, which gives you the 5 frames to react to the throw. 27+5= 32 right? You have 32 frames to react and break a purple throw under normal, lagless conditions. Should be easy. There are 60 frames in a second. We, this online community, typically play with about a half second (30 frames) of latency. Green throws, at 13 frames escape time, are technically untechable ON REACTION (anticipatory breaks are different). Purple throws at 27f leave you with 2 frames, 1/30th of a second (if we're assuming the half second latency) to react and break a throw. It takes the human brain about 1 second to react to whats happening in front of it. If you use reflexes, the reaction is faster since you're signaling to your spinal cord. Makes it about an 8th of a second. Now with the above information, and I assure you it's accurate, it is impossible to break a purple throw on reaction during netplay. If Tager can touch you and perform a blockstring into an unreactable 5.6k damage, that puts him at a disgusting advantage compared to the rest of the cast. The only thing that comes close to that damage is Bang's air CMD grab at 2.4k... not even half as damaging AND the opponent has to be in the air, already being hit. To use purple throws online to guarantee damage is cheap, scrubby, unethical, and disrespectful. Especially if you're a Tager main who can end an otherwise close match, with a single distortion. In conclusion, it's fucked up to purple throw with Tager on the internet. There is no dispute about this among the better players. Online is supposed to simulate real time play... If you rely on that and I run into you at a tournament, I'm going to laugh in your face and send you home as you waste 50 meter time and time again just to get throw broken, then bodied by players that actually know what they're doing. If you're online and you decide to still use the purple throw as a tactic, then you should stop playing, eject the disc, and let the real fighting game fans enjoy themselves. You scrubs are. not. welcome. here. |

At the same time though, its still a game mechanic.. which is why I think that certain set ups are fine. Obviously certain others don't quite meet those standards... and you know, just doin' [9] B+C B+C B+C B+C B+C B+C B+C B+C. |
