I make Neo shut down the board for lawls and roffles!

Okay, this is the beginning of something me and Neo have been throwing back and forth in person and I've managed to come up, despite all the shit the Divine has thrown at me in the past 72 hours, to come up with the setting and backstory and other crap you wanted me to flesh out Neo. Now I leave the title to all of you. After you read the BS in this topic, if any of you have any ideas for a good title, for the love of god offer them up.

Short version, for all of you wondering if you should even bother reading the rest of this....this is going to be a survival-horror story set a few centuries in our future. Humanity embraced genetics finally and created all kinds of things, such as anthromophic creatures. They also created a virus that caused infected hosts to become blood thirsty killing machines....or 'zombies'. Now, two decades after the initial outbreak, the survivors are doing what they can to pickup the pieces.

Specifically, the story is going to focus on a military group who operates out of Rhode Island and has gathered quite a large number of survivors. They have formed themselves into a military led society and are constantly sending small three man teams of specially trained soldiers out seek supplies and survivors from the ruins of America's dead cities.

Anyone interested is free to play human or fur, soldier or civilian. The tech and setting for the military and general way of life on the island is pretty much like ours currently is but with some slight advancements in the military side. For example, the American government managed to perfect the design flaws of the Osprey aircraft and before the outbreak was working twords replacing their troop carriers and cargo craft with various versions of this design. So rather than riding a Black Hawk into a mission, soldiers would be aboard one of the Osprey variants.

Anyway, more on all of this to follow in the next few posts for those of you who would be interested in this story.

*Looks at Neo.*

There. It's started. Put the damn whip away.

The Infected---"Zombies"

Humanity had gotten over it's cold feet in regards to genetics and the powers of the world embraced the new science with utter glee. This led to countless new breakthroughs including an entirely new race of creatures combining physical features of animals with the mind and physical abilities of man.

But, as with all breakthroughs, it was not long before the nations began to turn this new science twords creations of war. It is not known which of the many powerful governments lost control of its experiment, but in the space of a single months time, the civilized world ended and a virus swept through the nations.

The unnamed virus was past from a carrier to carrier through bodily fluids and quickly attacks the bodies nervous and immune systems. After days of suffering incurable flu-like symptoms and a fever through the roof, whole sections of the host's brain shuts down and dies. When this happens, the hosts body shuts down and goes into a deep rest state that lasts for several minutes or even hours where their heart and other functions slow so much they are unnoticeable without the aid of the finest medical equipment.

To all others, the host will seem dead at this point. It is often diagnosed as death by infection from their bite. Then, as the fever passes and their core temp begins to drop, what's left of their mind reawakens and the changed host will seem to rise from the dead. At this point, as said before, most of the hosts mind is burned out by the fever. Specifically the sections responsible for rational, logical, human thought and emotions as well as the brains ability to register pain.

Though the fever has gone down by now, the body still burns hot as the virus incubates and speeds the hosts motabilism up far above that of any human creature. This constantly burning furnace forces the brain-dead host to seek out any source of food it can find. Driven by an unrelenting need to feed and feed and feed, the infected host will attack any non-infected creature, man or animal, eatting every ounce of the healthy prey and moving on.

No longer hampered by sleep, exhaustion, or pain...infected persons and animals are stronger, faster, and more relentless than a healthy member of the same species. For example, an infected human will be able to run olympic speeds without ever slowing untill it catches it's prey. The reason for this is simple. A normal human will slow down from running once the strain on their muscles becomes painful. Infected do not feel this strain or pain and there fore can use their bodies to their full potential untill they either break themselves or burn up all of their energy.

Though they may seem like it and some may even walk or run around with massivly injured and destroyed bodies, the infected are not the living dead and are infact very much alive for all practicle purposes. They simply do not feel pain any longer, need sleep, and desire to eat so greatly they are violent and brutal killers of anything that moves, including severly damaged members of their own numbers. Severe damage to the brain remains the quickest way to bring down an infected, though doing enough trama to the bodies other systems can disable them and with enough firepower even kill them but for the most part, anything short of a point blank shotgun blast to the torsoe is not going to stop an infected from ripping you apart without a head shot.

Though clearly not inteligent on a human level, the infected can clearly tell the differance from a healthy creature and one of their own ranks and once they have spotted some sort of prey, will persue their meal relentlessly. They lack any real problem solving skills and offten times can be stopped by something as simple as a locked door. Ofcourse...what they can not walk through, enough infected can usually bash their way through and even if that fails, healthy creatures will die of thirst and starvation well before an infected.

During the initial outbreak, it was not uncommon to see infected in various stages of damage, some even missing one or more limbs. But as the numbers of healthy creatures continued to drop over their years, the infected have begun to weed out the weeker members of their ranks. This has all but eliminated the slower, damaged infected and most that are encountered in the empty cities are fast, relentless hunters who are drawn to flashes of light or loud noises like moths to flames.

This fact has limited travile of survivors, especially around the former major urban centers and some old cities are completly avoided by any survivor not wanting to die befor their time. On open road and in deep country, traviling by land is fine as long as survivors do not stay in anyone area for long. More than once, groups of survivors tried to set up towns and bases only to be overran and everyone killed.

The only safe havens are islands or shelters with natural choke points, such as old caves. Places where entrance by foot is either limited or impossible and any entrances can be closely guarded. For military groups seeking to engage infected, aireal mobility and recon is key as even one bird circling ground forces can keep said forces warned of any movement by infected rushing twords their next warm meal.

Hey brother, you know you didn't have to do it right now, I was kidding you when I said it the other day, and, in retrospect, I should have chosen something else to say, so for that outburst I apologize.
And for this I thank you, just a rough skim shows that this is a great write up and a good starting point. I'll read it in depth when I get home from work tonight and throw my ten cents in.

I'm interested, I'll probably play a civilian cougar-fur. Sounds like fun, I wish it to go well tho.

I don't want it to stall like the other Survival Horror about the hellish sunken city.. maybe that too can be redone.. I had a good fleshed out char for that one.

I'll do some follow-up planning for Winter here...

Winter stated that he wanted the Military/civilian mixed survival community (as I call it) to be based on a derelict Aircraft carrier set at Anchor approximately one mile from a derelict oil platform. That takes care of obligatory fuel issues as a small number of surviving fuel technicians have set up a small refinery capable of turning out the necessary fuel on the platform. Basically, to get fuel, a team would boat over to the platform, draw the necessary oil, pump it directly into the refinery unit, the refinery unit would produce the required fuel, and they would load it up in barrels and move back to the carrier. Due to the platform and carrier being on water, and due to the lack of the infected's coordination to swim, the teams going over to the platform run light as far as armament, because the platform has been cleared and searched multiple times, the platform, as well as the carrier, are by all means and constraints, safe as safe can be.

Travel to the mainland (one mile from the carrier) Is performed by boat, or, if a large amount of people need to be moved to or from the carrier quickly, helicopter, as the military community still has naval aviators and available airframes, two Chinook's and 4 Sea Hawks are available to fly at any time. But, you guessed it, they suck fuel hard, and the carrier can only get so much at a time.
As far as fast-movers, the carrier at one time had a full fighter wing, but the fuel drain the jets represent is just too much to make them viable. So most of the jets have been down apart and their armaments have been placed elsewhere. Only a few jets remain in the storage deck (Deck two) for use as a last-resort.

Deck two is the storage deck of an average Aircraft carrier, although now Deck two is more like a junkyard. Deck two serves as the commons area for the community, where the survivors and mingle and associate, as well as take part in and cheer on fighting tournaments which take place in a caged arena that takes up one-quarter of the available deck space.

All other decks serve their usual or modified purposes, quarters are still quarters, mess halls still serve what food is available. So on and so forth.

For necessity of safety, most traveling cells and groups go to and from a single, easily defensible dock building. This small building has an enclosed wet dock that is easily accessible by the zodiacs and cutters used by the cells and survivors as they travel to and from the mainland. It is a controlled access structure, made so by a jury-rigged gate that is controlled from the inside and monitored by closed-circuit cameras.

Unfortunately, due to frequent power loss, the gate often remains partially open, and is therefore covered by one or two crack-shot snipers. In fact, one person who will later be introduced is quite well-known in the small tunnel that leads to the dock, a human ex-military who defends the dock with near-crazed enthusiasm and a old Yugoslavian SKS.

Even though the gate is controlled by the dock crew, it is only opened for moving vehicles that are deemed safe, any persons on foot must pass through the gap, and then they must contend with the gate snipers, who have the final word in them entering the dock. Although that final word is usually a gunshot.

I've changed my mind about the civilian thing, I think I am going to be a cop, that survived and is training herself to be good enough to join the specialized cells that go out.

Still a Cougar-fur tho
