Do you get different colour belts with each grading?
I'm doing Taijutsu and have been doing for 2 years and our grading system seems to work differently to everyone else's, when you start you get a white belt and then when you pass your first grading you get a green belt if you are a man , but if you're a woman you get a red belt, and you stay on that colour until you get to the 2 kyu, then if you want to become an instuctor you get a brown belt, but if not you stay on either red or green until you get your black belt.

In brazilian jujitsu the belts go in this order!

- blue belt
- purple belt
- brown belt
- black belt

They can be reletively easy to achieve or they can be really hard to achieve!

where i trained at the 2 instuctors became masters directly under royce gracie!

I have trained in Muay Thai since i was 5 years old (14 years) and also in Nunjitsu since i was for 7 years.

I have also had a little training in Aikido, Karate and Tai Chi.

But the most unusual thing i was ordered to do by my Muay Thai instructor was Ballet. Thats right, my Muay Thai senior instructor made me do ballet for two years to improve my balance, I stopped as soon as possible but now I recommend it to anyone who is really serious about martial arts.

Anyway, i consider Martial Arts to be one of the finest ways to keep fit and recommend it to all people.

The best thing about it is that there are different types of arts for different people. My size made me ideal for Muay Thai and i am quite thin so i do well in Ninjitsu.

However larger people might prefer Judo or Hapkido. I think this makes Martial arts accesable to all.

Also there are many levels to train to, you might only want to keep fit or learn to defend yourself, or perhas you may be interested in entering the ring.

All in all i love martial arts and recommend it to anyone interested in getting fit.

However make sure you go to a reputable trainer as there are many people who will take your money and leave you little better then when you started.

I started training when i was 29 years old, up until then i never had any interest in martial arts, the reason i got involved was because my eldest son who is 9 lacks confidence (he was 7 at the time i started) it was really bothering me and i didn't know what to do about helping him build his confidence.

And then my brother in law ( who used to do karate, he got to a blue belt), suggested i got my son involved in some form of martial art, so i started phoning around all the dojo's in our area. and i found the one where i train now, i was told i could take him down one morning for a free lesson, and if i wanted to have a go i could also have one free lesson. so i took him down and he had a go, and i tried it as well, because even though i wasn't interested ,i didn't want him doing something i wasn't sure about or didn't know something about, after we had finished our lessons i asked him if he wanted to go back again and he said no thank you he wasn't really interested in doing it again, but i loved it so i started training,

I train 3 times a week, and where i go they are really good instructors, they don't put you in for a grading unless they are sure that you are ready, and they make all the lessons really enjoyable, so even though you are training you still have fun as well, it's like one big happy family, it's the best thing i have ever done for myself.

I know what you mean i could only make it down on day a week while my kids were on their 6 weeks holidays, i missed it so much, i must admit i was always very shy and lacking in confidence and unfit, but once i started there, i am even fitter now than when i was a teenager and i have lots more confidence and i am not so shy, so it has helped in all areas of my life and i couldn't live without it now.
